As title suggests my start menu icon text is suddenly left aligned on any new icons I pin. Clean install of retail build (about a week ago) + preview update to 22631.3672. All was fine yesterday, booted up today and the Forbidden West text had become left aligned (but only that one icon?!?!) so I tried pinning a couple of other things (Windows HDR Calibration and Nvidia Control Panel) and they are all doing it now. I'm not running any start menu or explorer modding software, just vanilla Windows. It's utterly baffling. Any advice appreciated, thanks in advance.

It probably has to do with how much room there is on that menu and/or the screen resolution setting, this is mine on a 15" Notebook with it resolution at the maximum supported:

Well, just to answer the obvious question: It's not the update to the 3672 Preview that did it. I updated to that version a few hours ago, and just now tried pinning a couple of new apps to Start, and no such left-aligning behavior happened.

(Just a suggestion: Since you are posting under the name mistajista, you might want to use the Edit key on your first post, then under the Attach files button, use the trash can to temporarily delete the image, then use your image editing software to wipe or blur your full name, and then use the Attach files button to put the image back. If you're not concerned at all about having your full name on the Internet, that's fine.)

Thank you for the replies. Not overly bothered by folks knowing my name (but thanks for the tip) just use that nick cos I've had it since the dawn of time. Edited so no one worries about me ;-) As regards to how much room there is on the menu... Well that would make some kind of sense but it's been fine for a week, only changed this afternoon and I altered nothing myself. I'm running on a 50 inch 4k TV with 300% scaling which I thought might have something to do with it but why was it fine up until today?!? Haven't installed any new GPU drivers either. It is beyond bizarre.

About the only thing you could try is to align the taskbar to the left then centre it again. See if that knocks some sense to it

Thank you. I've tried every scaling option but text remains left aligned on any new icons I pin. All icons pinned prior to this afternoon (except Forbidden West) remain centre aligned.

I've posted the problem on the Windows 11 subreddit also, and just had a reply that it's happened to someone else after they installed yesterdays preview update to 22631.3672. Perhaps it is a bug that only shows in certain desktop scaling situations. Interestingly enough I also had the problem on 26100.712 and reinstalled retail because it was driving me mad when I couldn't find a solution. I guess I will have to wait it out (or rollback the preview update to see if that fixes things).

Its certain an update will appear for the RTM 26100xxx series when Microsoft will see fit to release it. We'll have to wait.

No doubt, it just seems they have brought the issue to retail now (with yesterdays preview update) as I'm no longer on a 26100 build.

But since few seem to have this left-aligned problem after the latest preview update, it would seem to be a setting on those particular machines that's causing it, not the update per se.

Can confirm that rolling back the 22631.3672 preview update has fixed the issue. Thanks everyone for your help, much appreciated. Again, it must only occur in certain configurations as WiseWiz is unaffected on the same build. I will submit some feedback to Microsoft (and mention it's presence on 26100 builds also).

It's the preview build. I have the problem on three different computers - one of them newly installed with everything at default settings.
Upgrade to 24H2 on one of the computers solved it, so it's only this preview. Will probably be solved on next Patch Tuesday (I hope).
