When I used to hold my cursor over a folder it would display the sub folders but now It doesn’t do this anymore. Why would this function suddenly stop?

Any help appreciated. I really use this function a lot?

Ok, I’ve figured out half of it. If you right click blank space in the left navigation pane, you see the option expand to current folder. Then, the folders appear at the bottom and they expand when held on. But - I can’t figure our how to remove them from the bottom bit!

Aha! If you unpin all of the documents, downloads, pictures, video etc from quick access you can then add them as expandable folders.

1687687496974.pngI have messed it up a little bit - as you can see there is folders all over the place.. the ones with > are now expandable.

I never really noticed until I read your post. I'm running the Insider Canary builds on my computers and File Explorer is working the same way as yours's. My guess is that it's something MS either removed or turned off.

Not unlikely. They get rid of useful features and then after a few months bring them back..

That is if the emoji team is caught up with their new emojis. It seems that lately new emojis get top priority over almost anything else. I do like Windows 11 and I'm not going back to Windows 10 as my main OS. In fact I can't wait for the next Windows version to be released no matter what name MS decides to use. I just don't understand why MS wants to remove features we want and use and why they insist on making us use more key strokes then was needed in Windows 10 to get things done. In the past I have been told that MS is listening to corporations and not the average user when it comes to developing Windows. IMHO, that is malarky. What corporation wants their employees to waste time using emojis, destop stickers and more key strokes to get their work done? I have asked before and I'm still waiting for an answer. I tend to say what's on my mind and I know sometimes I shouldn't. That is why I chose the avatar I'm using. :-)

I felt like in windows 7 I just mindlessly could do anything, everything was there. Whereas, with windows 11 it feels like being in a shop and have to go through a one way system to get to the single product you want, to make you use other features and see more adverts in the case of windows, and in the case of a shop buy more products.

I think of it more as I do with big chain super markets. Once you get use to where everything is and can go right to what you want, They move everything so one has to go up and down every aisle to find what one needs. They do this to get you to buy things that are not on your shopping list.
