Supposedly brand new hard drive showing 10 power on count and 16k power on hours

I just bought a new 12TB hard drive from amazon and checked it's power on count and power on hours.
Is this reading accurate. It's showing power on 10 count and over 16000 on hours.
It's a Seagate Exos X14 12TB.

More than likely it is accurate. I trust crystal disk info. Send it back. I have bought a 10TB drive from amazon and it verified correctly in crystal disk info that it was new. Showing only 1 power on count and 1 hour.

You can also look up the drive serial number and see what the warranty status is from the manufacturer.

Always make sure your buying the drive from amazon themselves or a trusted third party seller like seagate who makes the drives or whatever.

I suspect it isn’t new, most likely a return which has been repackaged.
Also ensure the drive’s capacity is genuinely 12TB, Amazon are known for third party sellers who sell fake drives.

I think the figures of 10 times power on and 16358 hours power on are showing that this drive has been used in a server situation, where it was powered almost continouisly. If I calculate those figures, it has been on almost permanently, I come to 16358/24=681 days, which is about 1.8 year. Must have been a raid construction with hot swapping.

It will certainly not be new. I agree with #2 and #3: send it back!

Yeah I kept searching and found a similar case. 25 power on count and 25000 power on hours. Most likely from a datacenter.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October.
