This tutorial will show you how to take a screenshot to include in your conversation with the Copilot app in Windows 11.
Microsoft Copilot is your everyday AI companion that helps you to be smarter, more productive, more creative, and more connected to the people and things around you. Whether you want to learn how to code, plan an Influencer level vacation, or just need a little help writing a hard email, your everyday AI companion is there to help you get the job done like a pro. If you missed that meeting and need a quick recap or can’t figure out the tax code for your new side hustle, Copilot is there to sprinkle some AI pixie dust on the problem. There when you need it, Copilot works smoothly, seamlessly, and securely across your Microsoft apps to elevate everything you do. Speed up tasks, get more personalized answers and useful information, or find new creative inspiration. And you can do it all by asking for what you want the way you naturally write and speak. It doesn’t care if the task is big or small, it’s just there to help you get the job done. Copilot empowers you to achieve anything you can imagine.
Microsoft is beginning to roll out the Copilot app version 1.25023.101.0 across all Insider Channels via the Microsoft Store. This is a gradual roll out so not all Insiders will get the update right away. This new Copilot app version is now a native XAML app with a new UI.
When you message the Copilot app, you can take a screenshot to include in the message for your current conversation with Copilot.
The "Take screenshot" feature in the Copilot app uses the Snipping Tool.
Screenshots by the Snipping Tool are automatically saved to the C:\Users\<username>\Pictures\Screenshots folder for your account by default.
Here's How:
1 Open the Copilot app.
2 Click/tap on the More options (+) button on the "Message Copilot" toolbar, and click/tap on Take screenshot. (see screenshot below)
3 Click/tap on the Snip (camera) icon, click/tap on the Snipping mode icon, and select Rectangular, Window, Full screen, or Freeform in the drop menu for the type of screenshot you want to take. (see screenshot below)
4 Select the screenshot area you want depending on the type of screenshot you selected in step 3 above. (see screenshot below)
- Rectangular mode = Drag the cursor around an object to form a rectangle.
- Free-form mode = Draw a free-form shape around an object.
- Windows mode = Click/tap on the window to capture.
- Full-screen mode = Capture the entire screen.
5 The screenshot will now be included in your message with Copilot. (see screenshot below)
You can click/tap on the X button on the screenshot to remove it from the message.
That's it,
Shawn Brink
