I noticed an error when I sent to Optimize my drive on my windows 11 machine. When I went to the properties of a drive I was presented with this error:

"Storage Optimization cannot start because the task scheduler service is not running. Start the task scheduler service and try again"

Screenshot 2025-01-04 093341.webp

When I go to Services running as Admin and try to Start the Task Scheduler service I am then presented with this error:

"The Task Scheduler service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."

Curious what could be causing this and if it is affecting other areas of the OS. Any thoughts?

net start task scheduler
C:\Windows\System32>net start task scheduler The service name is invalid. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.

Make sure you have no corrupt system files that is causing this problem. Open a command prompt as administrator and type
sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer

(Note-you can follow up with another sfc /scannow command to make sure that dism repaired the files)

If that doesn't work, do a repair install. Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade

I did these as well but running again to see if it helps. Will doing a repair install wipe my settings. I just reformatted 2 days and spent a ton of time customizing apps and such. Would have to lose it all again.

Here are my scan results:

C:\Windows\System32>sfc /scannow Beginning system scan. This process will take some time. Beginning verification phase of system scan. Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I see you have disabled some services. This is probably why Task Scheduler is unable to start.

The Task Scheduler in Windows 11 relies on several system services and components for its functionality. Below are its key dependencies:

  1. Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    • Task Scheduler requires the RPC service to function correctly, as it relies on inter-process communication.
  2. Windows Event Log
    • Used for logging task execution and diagnostic information.
  3. COM+ Event System
    • Provides support for the event notification system, required for task scheduling.
  4. DCOM Server Process Launcher
    • Facilitates launching COM and DCOM servers for task execution.
  5. Security Accounts Manager (SAM)
    • Manages access to user account security information used by Task Scheduler.
  6. User Profile Service
    • Required when tasks are configured to run under specific user profiles.
  7. Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) (optional in some configurations)
    • Some tasks may use WMI for querying system information.

“and spent a ton of time customizing apps and such“ I wonder about the “and such.”
I added things like Open Shell for a classic start menu, had various driver customizations for my GFX card which I didnt want to loose. Ran CCleaner once wonder if that did it?

I ran the batch file but it produces errors?

It reboots without allowing you to see the output. That's not a good idea, is it?

I piped the output to a text file after adding a pause command after the W11 section.

I ran the batch file but it produces errors?

It reboots without allowing you to see the output. That's not a good idea, is it?

I piped the output to a text file after adding a pause command after the W11 section.
Some errors will be produced because of specified service does not exist or removed by Microsoft.

@FreeBooter

So why all the access denied messages?

And why this message?

NOTE: The option name includes the equal sign.
A space is required between the equal sign and the value.
To remove the dependency, use a single / as dependency value.

It refers to a syntax error, can you correct it or does it not matter?
