I've noticed recently that sometimes when I attempt to open an application from the Windows 11 tray icon overflow menu that there is a noticeable delay of about 2 or 3 seconds before it responds. I think it happens on the first occasion that I try to do it after the computer has been asleep. After the first delay, the problem seems to be resolved until it wakes from sleep next time. It may also happen the first time after a reboot.

As far as I can tell, the ones on the taskbar seem to be OK, but any in the overflow menu are the ones affected.
I haven't installed any new application for a long time, and this has only started happening in about the last month. Of course, I've done updates.

I'm just wondering if the latest NVIDIA driver update could have anything to do with it. I noticed there is a hotfix released for it.

The only thing that I'm concerned about is; Why should I have to change the icon cache size because of something that must happened on my computer recently? I haven't added or removed anything.

I understand if you believe changing the icon cache size is not the solution, then i suggest you delete the icon cache to see if it will help.

Mine has done this since it was installed a Long time ago. As for the GPU driver, I updated
not so long ago and it seems to OK. I don't see any glitches from it. Do you see any of your
games or videos flickering or stuttering ?

I'm not a gamer, but no flickering or stuttering playing videos. It's only the tray icon problems.

Maybe a future update will fix it.

Could the size of the task bar be a source or are you using SAB or other?
You can't tell me you've never played a game on your PC!

How recent and did you install the optional update offered last week or so?

How do I change the size of the taskbar? I guess there must be a registry tweak. I haven't changed the size from default.

I've never played a game on my PC.
I'm simply not a gamer. I'm not interested in playing games.

What optional update? The NVIDIA hotfix? I haven't installed it.

Taskbar change is a reg tweak but, I don't know if it still works with all the stuff MS
changes with every CU updates. I have StartAllBack and cannot change the size but,
it used to be that if you right clicked on the taskbar and unlocked it, you could simply
move the cursor at the edge of the taskbar until you got a two arrow head cursor then
simply dragged it to resize the taskbar. You can't anymore hence, the reg tweak.

Sorry, the CU Preview update. I don't now which hot fix you're talking about because
the last GPU driver was the one I posted in the screen shot.

They broke this tweak a while back... at least for the smallest size. It seems that all that works is medium and large now...
