For some time now I have had a persistent problem with the system application Windows Explorer. With a certain frequency, increasingly, it happens that performing any operation (copy/move files, open files, etc.) causes the application to freeze ("Not responding"). The other applications continue to function normally. But if, for example, I try to open a file from within an application, the dialog box opens but it is impossible to operate (if the app is already frozen), or other times, if the app is normally active, it freezes starting from this operation.
Almost always, it is impossible to close the app even by forcing it from Task Manager; simply nothing happens, or a message appears that says that access to the app is denied. In this case, it becomes necessary to turn off the PC and then restart it, and the operation must be done via the PC's power button, because the normal shutdown commands via software are also frozen.
I checked the PC with CC Cleaner, and no problems appear; I have done a system restore at least twice, but the problem still occurs.
How can I fix it?

Perform a clean boot and test. . If it doesn't happen in a clean boot, you have some software conflicting with Windows. Brink's procedure will help you weed out which one. Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 11 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts Tutorial

In the meantime, until you get to the bottom of your problem, create a shortcut on your desktop to the following target. Name it Kill Explorer. Assign it an icon and pin it to taskbar. This will prevent you from having to shut down to kill the explorer process.
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c taskkill /im explorer.exe /f & start explorer.exe

After trying to solve following your suggestions - without any result - casually realize that the trouble was strictly connected with an external drive; when I connect it directly to pc, and not through the USB hub, the trouble disappear. All's well that ends well... anyway, thanks again.
