Today I checked for updates to Windows security. A line came up - Intel but don't recall all details. I clicked on it - It went fast -screen went black - then back to desktop (I think) - when I looked at update history, nothing was noted about an Intel -- is this something I should deal with and how? Thanks.

Yes, Intel had a rash of updates not too long ago for mine as well.

use this for Intel Drivers. you might not get all drivers but, the essential
ones.

if you haven't checked for drivers since the beginning of this month,
it could be this one:

Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics - WHQL - Windows*

I do check for updates every morning -- I guess drivers are not included in what is checked. I'll go back and look at drivers updates, however.
ok - will follow thru - thanks to all.

I went to Intel as provided and this came up-Lenovo says not to for reasons stated. So I go to Lenovo site for driver updates and that says - ALL UP TO DATE.. I really find all so annoying! The price of most enjoyment of a pc is variable annoyances!

I am not comfortable installing Intel driver if "customizations" are removed. I am not sure what in the heck they are talking about anyway. Maybe that Intel 'thing' I saw this morning didn't happen because Lenovo stopped it. Also, I have looked in my windows update menu and I do not see any option to look at driver updates. All driving me crazy!!

Look in Windows update History, all sections.

Also look in the Lenovo Vantage application > System Tools > System update > FULL HISTORY > expand.

There is no problem with the screen going black during some updates.

On a new Laptop there are many updates to be done, it's normal.

That is a very minimal annoyance.

You need to configure the Lenovo Vantage application > System Tools > System update > Auto update settings.
My preference is, Critical updates On, and Recommended Updates Off.

I look carefully at the Recommended ones and update what is required at a time of my choosing.

There is a link to Windows updates just below those 2 items.

Click on that brings you to Windows updates > More options > Update history (3rd item down)
Expand items for more detail.

You have a Lenovo Ideapad but, which one?
IF you only have the one graphics card which is the one on the CPU,
that will be the Iris Xe graphics module.
IF you have another graphics card (called dedicated), you should also
have updates for that one as well.
To see which one you have, go to:
in the search box type Control Panel . Click on it.
In the upper right hand corner, click on the Category and choose Large Icons
Click on the Device Manager.
Click on the little arrow next to Display Adapters to expand.
You should be able to see which graphics card you have.
IF you see Intel Iris Xe , double click on it.
Select Driver tab from the top of the little app.
You should now be able to see which driver version you have installed.

IdeaPad Slim 5 16IRL8 --Driver listed is: Intel UHD Graphics - It was in windows update today -- an Intel driver update is available. Very confusing to me as Lenovo said not to install an Intel driver. When I looked at Lenovo site yesterday it said all drivers were updated. If I install Intel driver all customizations would be removed, according to Lenovo.

I do not know how critical or important those are. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Does Lenovo actually give you the Version of the Intel graphics driver?
Compare it to the MS driver.
I have a 2010 Asus gaming notebook G73 that, if you updated the graphics driver
you would lose the ability to game . Asus had hacked the driver to suit their
needs so, no updates. I did in fact update and low and behold, no games ran
right on this notebook.

Have you looked at their forums for help on this matter (updated driver)

31.0.101.4255 is the number next to the update menu for the INtel... I really do not wish to lose my gaming ability. Also, duh me but what is the MS driver?

So, the driver for the Intel graphics is the same I have on this MSI Raider (2022)
The drivers that MS wants to install could be for the other Intel products found
on your notebook such as Bluetooth or sound or microphone and so on. Lots
of modules come from Intel. Have a look at my updates from Intel on their site:

The black screen shot is from my installed Intel drivers on this notebook that came from MS.
There are more but, suffice to say that, there is more than just graphics to take care of.

So, as I asked, you could benefit from visiting the Lenovo Community to get a
better understanding of what your notebook needs .

If you do, pls come back and share your experience with us.

I guess all is solved. When I finally found the driver update section of windows updates - it said the Intel driver in question had been installed-- yesterday. That is the one that quickly showed up and the screen went black. So I will mark this all solved. I will still try to sign up for Lenovo forum as I think it will be a good guide -- thanks to all.

You're welcomed.
The graphic drivers are usually done that way. They uninstall the old driver and install the
new version all in one go and for that , removing the old driver leaves the graphics card without
any software to communicate with the screen for a few seconds. Nothing to worry about and
now you know so, the next time this happens, you wont be worried.

what you have learned so others can also benefit from your experiences.
