Solved Unlocked Locks

Hello everyone;

I knew the title would get your attention, it was designed for that.

On to the dilemna I am facing here, due to unforeseen circumstances I was forced to do a complete re-install of Windows 11 Home 24H2, after doing that and reinstalling all of my programs, I found that mt BIOS needed updating to Version 3621 from Version 3611 which was not a problem.

I did that task at 6:00 AM EST 4-29-2025.

All went well, as this is the first posting of anything since booting up my new BIOS.

Now here is where I run into a very serious question about changes to the User Interface on my PC.

This is what my PC now looks like. I have no idea how those unlocked locks got there and this now has me worried.

Does anyone know how to get the original User Interface look back where there are no locks, just the Windows symbol on Local Disk (C:)?

In Windows 11, a lock icon on a drive indicates that the drive is encrypted using BitLocker Drive Encryption. If the lock is a golden color, it means the drive is locked and requires a password to access. If the lock is open, the drive is unlocked but will automatically lock after a system restart.

Windows 11 24H2 automatically encrypts on a clean install, unless you prevent it. Here are some tutorials for disabling and such, after the fact.

My advice, next time you install Windows, use RUFUS to create the install media:

If you use RUFUS to create your install media, you can stipulate a username and local account, disable Bitlocker etc.

Create the install media with RUFUS.
- #1 Direct RUFUS to your USB
- #2 Direct RUFUS to the ISO
- #3 should sort itself out

#4 When instigating the creation of the media and after clicking “Start” The following options will show.
- Select your choices. If your device supports Windows 11, obviously you won’t need to bypass TPM.
- The rest is optional.

Click OK then the USB install media will be created on the USB

If you plan on reinstalling Windows, and that D Drive is an external or secondary drive, remove the drive encryption from it first.

I think you need to reach a certain post count for Edit to become available. Admins can confirm.

I'm betting it's a time delay so you can't edit after some time has elapsed. You can edit right after posting, but after some period of time, the edit option is gone.

VIP’s have edit options. Non-VIP’s get a day or less I believe.
It’s either VIP’s or a particular RANK.
