I have read everywhere that you have to use fat 32 et cetera and not exfat or NTFS to update motherboards and it successfully updated the motherboard.
However, I just did update my motherboard with exfat format; it's an Asus Z790 - V prime.
Apparently my system was able to rread and handle this exffat format.
I hope this helps others.
I would still use the recommmend FAT 32 but I thought this was of interest. Google is not always current.

Your motherboard may be new enough to be able to read an exFAT drive. I know that my motherboard won't. I am limited to FAT32.

I agree my machine is only a couple of years old.
Time certainly flies and many times it makes it easier to accomplish tasks. It is, however, an expensive endeavor..

I have an ASUS. It automatically updates the BIOS from Windows update or MyASUS. But you can use a FAT32 USB if you wish. I had to format my SD cards with a third party utility though, because Windows won't format drives or partitions over a certain size as FAT32.

If you have an Asus with BIOS flashback and flash the BIOS that way, it must be FAT32 USB drive. If I use the BIOS updater within in the BIOS, it can read BIOS on NTFS, FAT32 and exFAT.

So it depends on how you update it.
