VPN Issue - The l2tp connection attempt failed because the security layer could not authenticate

I have a home router with an IPSec VPN setup. This worked on my iPhone and Macbook, but in windows I am getting this error.

The l2tp connection attempt failed because the security layer could not authenticate the remote computer.



I know the settings are correct. What would be causing this?

In case you are wondering about the hardware it is an ASUS RT-AX86U on Merlin WRT 3004.388.8_4

Try disabling Antivirus and Firewall and update your network card driver.

Also open Command Prompt and execute netsh winsock reset command and reboot your system.

None of these worked. Not sure. Like I said worked on my mac. I can try to setup an open VPN connection instead.

OpenVPN connection worked. Not sure why the builtin one in Windows is not working.
