What is the proper syntax to exclude a file from Macrium Reflect?

Hello,
During my Macrium backup, the product issues a bunch of warnings stating, "The file cannot be access by the system." I know where to code file exclusions but not its proper syntax. This is for files that begin with \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShowowCopy19\Stuart\Documents\Dropbox\Dropbox\.dropbox.cache\ I would like to code an exclusion for the pattern of *\Stuart\Documents\Dropbox\Dropbox\.dropbox.cache\* Basically I don't care what exists before STUART and after .dropbox.cache What would its proper syntax be?

Thanks for your reply but your screen does not batch mine. I am running Macrium Reflect X Home V10.0.8495. Still looking for the exclusion string that will cover the pattern of *\Stuart\Documents\Dropbox\Dropbox\.dropbox.cache\*

1. Click Defaults
2. Click Exclude Files
3. Click Filters
4. Click Add Wildcard
5. Click Select Folder, then browse to find the folder you want to exclude. Set the wildcard to *.* and tick Include subfolders.

Well, here's the thing. As you lease VX, you are entitled to full support from the excellent Macrium Reflect Team.

Why not get in contact with the experts. If you let them, they will call you wnd talk it through with you.

Be aware that excluding files may not work as intended.

The reason to exclude temporary files is to make images smaller. When restored, there excluded temporary files do not exist in the backup.

So when you restore folders containing the existing excluded files get set to the restore backup status. What this means is the excluded files effectively get deleted.

The same will probably happen with a permanent file if you exclude it i.e. file will get deleted upon a restore. Now you may have a real issue as file is gone with no backup.

So before you go and exclude files that you might want to keep, DO A TEST with a junk file e.g. a copy of file you wish to exclude to make sure behaviour is as intended.

The easiest way, of course, to avoid issues is to put files you intend to exclude in a separate partion and exclude that from image backup.
