Whatsapp and then it's ok for a while then I get this warning again.

It is not... WhatsApp on Android is different than on Apple devices as WhatsApp pays Google Drive to backup your WhatsApp data on Google Drive but it does not count against the space you use as it's hidden. Ofcourse, this has changed...
