Where is the keyboard name stored?

Well, it's not essential, not even important, but annoying.

I created a custom keyboard layout using Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (MKLC). It works fine, but I gave it an unfortunate name. It is visible in Settings under Language->Language Options. I wanted to correct it, so I created a new, slightly changed layout and gave it the right name. However, Settings show the old name. So I got two keyboard layouts with the same wrong name. This is definitely a bug in MKLC. I know now how to fix it in a new layout, but I don't want to create a third layout just to get the name right. So I've been hunting for the wrong name in the system with the intention of editing it.
But I cannot find it. It is not in the Registry or in the driver (a DLL file). It exists in some binary database files that I don't want to edit, but these files are hardly used in Settings. I did exist in the Registry, but I've changed it. However, the name in Settings didn't change.

So my question is: where is the keyboard name, visible in Settings, fetched from?

It appears to be stored in the system registry, or, at least, linked to a registry entry. I am unable to verify it, as I do not use it, however there are safe and not so safe (ie., "manual") ways of uninstalling a custom layout, which are discussed in the answers here:

@Flashorn:
I'm using this version, 1.4. I doubt it has been changed for the last ten years, but it was recompiled to work with .NET 6.0.

The keyboard layout name is not stored in the Registry. It used to be there, but I replaced it manually by the new, correct name. But Settings still show the old incorrect name.

Also, I didn't have problems with removing the old the keyboard layout. It requires manual updates of the Registry, but I've done it before, so I feel safe about it. So the old (first) keyboard layout is gone, but the new keyboard layout has the old wrong name, and I don't know how to change it.

Did you try rebuild the package (.dll) after changing the registry?

@iko22:
The sequence of activities was as follows:
1. Add Layout 1 with the wrong name.
2. Add Layout 2 with the right name in MKLC but the wrong name in Settings.
3. Remove Layout 1. The wrong name stays in Settings.
4. Correct name everywhere (Registry etc.) but in some binary files, the wrong name stays in Settings.
I can rebuild the package fixing the bug in MKLC. Then I'll get Layout 3 with the correct name, and I'll have to remove Layout 2. But I wanted to use the Layout 2 dll as it is now because it is good. But its name in Settings is wrong :-(

I would try to remove all custom layouts, restart and then create a new custom layout with the correct name. This should work.

PS: Just curious, why you would need a custom keyboard layout? The default layout isn't easy to use?

@spapakons:
Yes, I can do it. Or I can live with the current layout. Its only drawback is the wrong name in Settings. Not so important, really.

I use the PC with two other languages apart from English, so I added 12 national characters. You combine ALT with a letter and get a new character on the English keyboard. It's easy with MKLC.
