Precisely as the title says: Why isn't there a complete list of all registry hacks, & what they can do? (Oh, & also how to implement them into the registry!) It would be great to see ALL of the things that advanced users can enable/disable/create/change/etc., without having to Google it all the time.

Let's start off with an example here...

How to change a file type's default icon:
  1. Go to Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\
  2. Go to the folder with the name of the file extension whose icon you want to change
  3. Add a new string value with the title of DefaultIcon
  4. Type or copy-&-paste the path to the icon you want to use instead (e.g., "C:\Users\User\Desktop\Other Important Things\All New Icons\3d_files.ico" without quotes)
  5. Press enter, restart, & you're done!

As per the link that PerpetualCycle pointed you to, quite simply, if there’s a way to do it, Brink has most likely created a tutorial for it.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Because there's billions of them and the time involved would be immense, then some would fail and cause system destruction for which the author would get the blame.

Feel free to document them yourself at will.

When I saw the title of this thread I had a bit of a dejavue feeling.

I doubt a comprehensive resource (website, wiki, etc.) exists, but can anyone recommend resources that documents Windows 11 registry keys: what they do and what values they can have? I'm interested in speeding up animations in Windows 11, but there seems to be precious little information about...
