Solved WIN 11 Unsupported System Assistance Needed

I have Windows 11 Pro 23H2 -- Version 22631.4037 installed on an unsupported system, and I used the Microsoft ISO combined with Rufus for the installation.

Problem: How do you do repair the system image either through a repair or upgrade process to fix the system image on an unsupported system. I have tried using the windows update feature but every time I get that “PC is not compatible with Windows 11” error which forces me to do another time-consuming clean install. I do have my system images when needed or use other tools like restore health and such but often find myself in a position wherein I must repair the system image.

So can someone explain to me what exactly needs to be done prior to trying to do some type of repair or upgrade process to repair my existing image so the operation will complete successfully without losing any data / installed programs.

If you have used Rufus to make an install usb that will work for an unsupported system, then you should also be able to use it for a in-place repair upgrade. Just plug in the usb and run the Setup.exe you'll find at the root of the USB drive.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

Duh! What are you needing to "Repair"?
I'm sorry, I'm just not fully understanding your problem.
You keep referring to "System Image", but what exactly are you talking about?

TechnoMage2021: Maybe I didn't use the correct terminology. After installation of my unsupported Windows 11 installation, I find that at times I "break" things and my system does not function properly. So I've always just did another clean install with Rufus. In my original post, I stated that I did not know the procedure to fix (repair) the original installation (system image) as it was an unsupported system.

It's Option Two in this tutorial. The fixes Rufus has made to bypass the hardware checks work just as effectively for an in-place upgrade as they do for a clean install.

It sounds like you have no backup plan in place. Imaging your system can save your bacon.
