Windows 11 Clean Install USB Issue

Hello All

Ok just completed a clean install on my Newer Desktop with updated M.2 Drives with my preferred brand (Samsung)

Anyways plugged in USB Flash drive, i did have ei.cfg in Sources folder, yet it still installed Windows 11 Home, managed to notice it right away, and grabbed it from MS store, and restarted afterwards

Then worked on getting everything else installed for today

Later on i'll do File cleanup and then First System Image once i get the Cleanup done

Well maybe my ei.cfg wasn't right---

Just was hoping to figure out for next time if and when i do another clean install in the future, so i can get Pro edition immediately lol, if not possible its ok, i'll just do way been doing it

For a normal user, your \sources\EI.cfg should be:

Don't use a PID.txt, or specify any product keys in your unattended file (to allow free choice of your Windows edition).

It's installing Home because either Home is what is embedded in the uefi bios OR you usid the installation assistant to make the drive from a computer that had Home on it and did not select the option that it was to be used for another PC.. Had you done that you would have gotten a universal iso through the installation assistant. .
If you use the universal iso, you get a choice of which version to intall.' Go here Download Windows 11
Scroll down to Download Windows 11 disk image (iso)
Under "select edition" select "Windows 11 multi-edition iso)"
Download the iso and use Rufus to make your installation usb drive

The install process will give you a choice of what version to install. Choose PRO. You will have to have a PRO licence to activate PRO if the uefi bios does not have an underlying license for it..

Yes this PC system was an OEM Pre Built Purchased in July 2024 that came with Windows 11 Home Edition at the time


Early August i purchased The Windows Home to Pro Upgrade via MS Store like i did with my previous System, as been on Pro Edition since upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1 with Media Center which meant i automatically got Pro way back then on older system. I occasionally use Remote Desktop that is part of Pro, and a few other features off and on.

Plus most of the other Household systems are on Pro edition as even the old HP P6 desktop used Media Center a bit back in 8.1 days


I did use a Universial multi edition ISO on Download Windows 11 site early this morning, and then used Rufus to make the USB drive, and then got my updated Boot drive installed, and proceeded with the Install.
