Solved Windows 11 does not see hard drive

I have an old Dell XPS410 as a spare computer. I had Linux Mint installed on an SSD and also had a Seagate barracuda {320 GBs} 7200 rpm hard drive as a data drive. I reformated the SSD and installed Windows 11 PRO 23H2 22631.4169 on the SSD. When I go to disk management the computer does not see the data drive. It was formated by Linux and worked fine with it. I booted the machine with a Gparted live USB and Gparted was able to see the drive. I used Gparted to format the drive to NTFS and it shows as Primary partition. When I reboot the machine Windows still does not see the drive. I can feel the drive runing and it worked alright with Linux. If anybody has any ideas I would appreciate the help. The machine is an old 2006 and runs Windows 11 just fine.

I had not checked that. I just did and it is not listed

What file system was used to format the 320GB hard drive?

Maybe check the hard drive cables.

You should also be using this instead of Disk Management... (it's much more powerful).
It's install directory is only 78MB.

Copied and pasted from Seagate. Check #1 first. Some motherboard manufactures disable unused ports in the BIOS by default.

There are six main reasons why a system BIOS will not detect the presence of an internal hard drive. Here is a list of them. They are not in any particular order, but you can follow these steps one by one to troubleshoot this problem:

Mini tool or Disk genius does not see the drive. I am going to get an external drive enclosure to see if the drive still works.

Internal or external... the drive must be visible in the BIOS... first.
If you can't see it in the BIOS, you won't see it anywhere else (unless the problem is just bad cables).
Hooked up externally, the drive will be using different cables. USB probably?

If the drive had Linux on it most likely it was formatted as ext4, mine is. If it can be seen by the BIOS I'd use a Linux bootable LiveDVD and run the GPARTED program to wipe the drive or get the GPARTED program available from GParted -- A free application for graphically managing disk device partitions.

I use a USB Dual-Bay Drive Dock plugged into my Linux Desktop for copying/cloning and cleaning drives and the BIOS is not necessary. Booting to a LiveCD, LiveDVD or LiveUSB does require the BIOS recognition.

GPARTED is a powerful partition editor, can work with several formats. As a demo for a client I partitioned an older 1TB HDD with 9 x 100GB partitions and one smaller as NTFS, then wiped it and created 3 x 250GB partitions and one smaller as FAT32. Windows had no problem with using either, just can't create and format more than 32GB and if reading things correctly on the 'net that limitation may be going away in the near future..

Outside chance but could be a bad sata port too. Did you check that bios setting I mentioned to make sure all the sata ports are enabled. In my Dell it's under System Configuration>drives Might be listed differently in yours.

Also, you didn't plug the sata drive in to the sata port reserved for second dvd drive did you?.

That 2006 vintage 410 has pretty low specs and is not compatible with Win11, which you know if you installed Windows. Don't expect too much out of it.
