OS
windows 11
so, I'm trying to identify the sound effect facebook messenger(app) uses on windows 11 to notify you of new messages, so I can go into windows sounds and change it to something thats actually readily audible over other competing sounds eg games, movies etc.

what sound does this app use?

windows 11 version: 22h2 os build 22621.1992

There's no easy way. The only way to determine what sound it uses is to listen to each of the windows sounds until you hear the one you want to change or disable.
Open control panel. Select Sound>Sounds tab.
In the list, select a program event. Then select "test". When you hear the sound you want to change, at the bottom of the window click the drop arrow and assign it another sound OR select (None) if you want to silence the sound. It's the first option in the list of available sounds. This will affect not only FB messenger but anything else that uses that particular windows event.
