windows 11
should I install the repair version of my windows 11 23h2? I recently went into the windows insider program and restated my pc, and the windows 11, version 23h2 repair version came out, should I install it guys?

You shouldn't be on the insider program unless you know what you are doing. I've never heard of a "Repair Version"

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

Did you choose to repair your PC through windows update, as in the tutorial above? Or did you choose to leave the Insider program?

Either way, Windows Update could download a 'repair version' to reinstall Windows. It works the same as any upgrade would, keeping all your installed apps and files. See the tutorial link in post #4 for more details.

The repair version will not 'scatter' your PC. It is safe to install, all your installed apps and files and most settings will remain intact. The worst that may happen is that it removes your PC from being enrolled in the Insider channel and returns it to being on the RTM 23H2 General Availability channel.

thanks so much Bree, I really appreciate.. so should I go on to install the update or I should just pause the update, I know its eat alot of data...

A repair install, whether through Windows Update or by downloading the ISO and installing it yourself, is often recommended as a way to fix issues on your PC. So it should do no harm to let it install, and maybe some good.

The repair version is slightly smaller than the ISO and will download about 2.5GB of data. After it has completed the install there will be a Windows.old folder containing your previous system files (should you wish to go back). This will be about 10GB and will automatically be deleted after 10 days...
