Windows 365 point-in-time restore snapshot health indicator generally available

 Windows IT Pro Blog:

Windows 365 is enhancing its disaster recovery solutions by introducing a snapshot health indicator for point-in-time restore snapshots. This new feature, now generally available, is designed to provide IT administrators with critical information about snapshot health, which enables them to make more informed decisions when restoring Cloud PCs.

Healthy vs. unhealthy snapshots

Healthy snapshots are those with a higher probability of successful restoration. Conversely, unhealthy snapshots have a lower probability of success. While administrators are not restricted from using unhealthy snapshots, the indicator serves as a caution, informing them of the potential risks associated with restoring these snapshots. This transparency is crucial for IT administrators, as it helps them avoid unsuccessful restoration attempts and minimizes downtime.

The health of a snapshot is determined by two main parameters: virtual machine (VM) agent health and session host health. VM agent health refers to the status of the virtual machine agent, while session host health pertains to the status of the session host.

Point-in-time snapshot health indicator in Microsoft Intune

The point-in-time snapshot health indicator is integrated into the Microsoft Intune admin center, where admins can view the health indicator of unhealthy snapshots. This indicator clearly marks unhealthy snapshots while all unmarked snapshots are considered healthy, based on the specific parameters mentioned above. The primary goal is to assist admins in selecting the most reliable snapshots for restoration, thereby increasing the likelihood of successful recovery operations.
