Is it just me or is Spotlight broken again? I've got 4 systems here and all have been displaying the same backdrop for weeks. I've used Reset scripts and also manually cleaned the spotlight store and on reboot i get the same boring picture.

I didn't actually try that, i expected all machines to cycle as they should.

I recently upgraded to 24H2, and my Spotlight stopped working also. I think it worked for a few days after the update before it stopped. I tried running Brink's script to repair and re-register but that didn't help. I didn't see "go to next image" in the right-click menu. I thought that was only when you have Slideshow selected and you are using your own folder of images. Wish I knew what was causing this.

Well, I got my Spotlight working again. I only use it for the desktop wallpaper. In my user profile, I went to...

%LocalAppData%\Packages\MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalCache\Microsoft\IrisService and I deleted everything in there. The image that was showing on my desktop that was stuck for the past week was in there. I did this while my desktop was set to Picture and not Spotlight. Then I rebooted and switched the desktop back to Spotlight.

I do that frequently but it freezes after a few day's.

Yep i've done that multiple times following deletion of the cache, it will freeze again within weeks.

What command are you using to reset and re-register the MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS package?

Spotlight is a waste of time. I've done the same as you and it keeps getting stuck. I use "Picture" and forget it.

Spotlight has always been broken which is why I use the Dynamic Theme app.

Until now I never heard of Windows Spotlight.
Now that I saw this thread, I searched what it should be and absolutely no, I don't want 'services' like described here:
Suggestions, fun facts, tips: recommendations on how to enhance the user's productivity of Microsoft products. They're displayed in different locations, such as the lock screen, the background, the taskbar, or the Get Started app

So I'll never test how it's functioning, already have plenty to do to stop al, the MS ads.

It's customisable. All I ever see is a changing photograph on the lockscreen. I use Dynamic Theme to see a fresh photo every day for my wallpaper and another photo from Bing for my lockscreen - no ads, no suggestions.

That's a personal choice.

I have a very boring wallpaper: just a bluegrey background that never changes. That's how I want it to be.
And my lockscreen has just one specific picture that I use for that. Is shown a very short time, because almost immediately after locking the monitor is automatically switched off in order to save power.

So I don't need this Spotlight at all, customisable or not. ;-)

The "Suggestions, etc.", can be toggled. I have mine turned off. The only thing it does is change the wallpaper once a day. A lot of the images are nice.
