Solved Windows Update incorrectly says my 23H2 has reached end of service

Surely some mistake here? 23H2 is supposed to be in support until November 2025.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

Although I don't know the official EOL for Windows 11 23H2, I don't see a contradiction.

I'm going with "this is a bug". Pro versions are supported for 24 months unless MS has changed EOL terms again.

So, I still don't see the conflict. Should the EOL be expected at a later date? Your 23H2 is good until 2025. It has not yet expired.

So am I. I think Windows Update has got confused. Instead of offering 24H2 as an optional update it thinks 23H2 is EoL. I had expected to see this by now....

Windows Update is explicitly saying that my 23H2 has reached end of servicing, when in fact it has another 11 months worth of updates in store. That's where the conflict lies.

Just butting my nose into it, I would not suggest upgrading to 24H2 since there have been so many bugs reported about it. I am staying away as long as I can (or until they fix it).

This machine is my Hyper-V host machine, I need it to be completely stable. I do have 24H2 on my System One, a fully supported device, and have tested the 24H2 upgrade on my other supported machine, System Five in 'My Computers > Other Info'. From what I've seen there I feel that 24H2 is not yet ready for 'prime time'.

Besides the cosmetic bugs (File Explorer's 'three dots' menu flying up out of the top of the screen, for example) there are some fundamental flaws. DISM's /AnalyzeComponentStore consistently reports 2 reclaimable packages, no matter how many times you run /StartComponentCleanup. I've shown that this is baked into the install media, not some random update error.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

This makes me curious as to when the Beta 23H2 builds are expected to go to 24H2. They don't seem to be in any rush on the beta insider program.

Yeah, I went into my Beelink which is running 23H2 and wanted to see what it showed, and I got the noticed that Windows 11 24H2 was available. I had NOT seen that before today.
