Solved Windows Update shows error 0x80245006 after installing latest KB5039212 updates successfully and rebooting

Windows Update shows error 0x80245006 when checking for updates after installing latest KB5039212 updates successfully and rebooting.

Used FixWin 11.1 to run the (retired) Windows Update Troubleshooter which was not useful:

Ran sfc and `DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth`, clearing up a couple of unrelated issues (bluetooth driver oddity and a very irritating issue with `Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-LA57-FoD-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.22621.1`. Those problems are no longer present, but the WU error remains.

Thoughts? Is this some wonderful side-effect of installing KB5039212?

(Note: I reran DSIM - everything was still fine, but on one retry it took a hopeful long while before giving an error `0x801901f7`. Then it was back to `0x80245006` on subsequent tries.)

I am getting the same issue:
"Windows Update shows error 0x80245006 when checking for updates after installing latest KB5039212 updates successfully and rebooting."

Installed '92112 a week ago, installed ok. Shutdown the system normally.
Powered it up today, booted fine, but now Windows Update check fails with error 0x80245006.

SFC showed corrupt files, replaced successfully.
DISM showed corrupt files, could not fix, says files cannot be found in the source location.

I see lots of complaints about update error 0x80245006 now popping up.

Congrats, Microsoft, you messed up a whole lotta Win11 systems.

BTW my Win10 system is just fine. No issues.

I did a deep dive into the WU error with PerfView..... two things caught my eye in particular:

*FAILED* [80245006] SLS sync failed during service registration...

and

*FAILED* [80245006] Failed to execute service registration call...

though it appears that SLS sync is the main problem here.

I noted KB5039212 simply because things were fine prior to installing this one update. I'd installed the preview of this update (KB5037853) at the end of May with no issues.

Hey there! A fellow Extra-class Ham! :waves:

I actually wonder if it's something on the server side for MS, as it's not just me, it's not a universal bug in the 23H2 update, and because right now it won't stop "checking for updates" suggesting something interesting is going on at or on the network to MS.

And as I wrote that the update check finished... successfully. Found some Defender AV updates in the process.

So. Bizarre.

As noted above, this seems to be suddenly working of its own accord now. Guess it was worth it to learn to debug at the ETL file level....

I'll close this as solved if it still works in a little while.

Ditto. Last successful check for updates I did was around 5:00 PM eastern US time zone. Several subsequent attempts to check for updates over a span of hours resulted in the noted error. Around 9:30 PM, I got update KB2267602 (Version 1.413.356.0) which appears to be a virus signature update for Windows Defender. But the check for update lasted about 5 minutes before it finally found this one update. I immediately rechecked after this one got installed & again, it took at least 5 minutes to come back & tell me I was up to date. This very much looks like a problem at the other end, meaning chez Microsoft. I expect a full explanation & apology from them. Yeah right. :rolleyes:

    The ethernet adapter integrated into the motherboard died. I am now using a TPLink TX201 ethernet adapter in a PCIe expansion slot for Internet connectivity.
Well, it all self corrected after a few hours.
Windows Update completed successfully.
SFC ran and found a few errors and fixed them.
DISM ran and found a few errors and fixed them.
All appears normal now.
Looks like a temporary glitch in the Microsoft Matrix.
