I use this a lot to hide display driver updates that Windows insists on installing after every update.
These drivers are old and problematic, something Microsoft does not seem to understand.
The link takes me to a page which tries to explain what is being deprecated, and System Maintenance is on that list, with no clear indication of what will replace it.

Looking forward to increased future hassle.

I use windows update MiniTool rather than Windows own. Hopefully people will move to that.

The 'inbox' troubleshooters are all based on the Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool (MSDT) platform which is being deprecated. The built-in troubleshooters will start being redirected to a new Get Help troubleshooting platform. Wushowhide.diagcab is not a built-in troubleshooter, so should remain unaffected and continue to work until the MSDT platform itself is removed in 2025.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

It's nice of MS to deprecate things that don't work anyway. :-)
Now if they would just deprecate things that do work, but that no one wants.

Like...
The new Start Menu, the new Taskbar, the new Context Menus, the soon to be disaster of File Explorer as a UWP.
All the "Settings" in general, which should be put back in Control Panel (only), and then left alone.
All the Libraries in File Explorer, which were a disaster the day they thought of them.
And probably the worst new idea of all, was when MS decided they knew more about drivers than the manufacturers did.
The generic OOB drivers were a good idea. But, including drivers in WU... very bad idea.

The only new thing, they should keep, is the In-Place Upgrade, which was pure genius.


And last but not least, they should un-deprecate their QC dept. and quit using us as guinea pigs.

WAU Manager doesn't really stop WU on Win 11, but it does allow you to hide updates.
There are quite a few other utilities for dealing with Win 11 updates, some more successful than others.

WAU Manager "does" work as advertised on Windows 10 though.

Why not disable driver updates through WU and manage your drivers yourself. WU can usually get a system running but is definitely not the best solution for keeping drivers updated because, as you say, it installs outdated drivers a lot of the time. It also downloads bios updates which is what I hate most about it.

  2. Can you provide the GPU (what GPU are you using) / driver that "Windows insists on installing after every update"?
  3. Also, does said driver update show in Windows Update History?

I would prefer stopping only the video driver update completely if possible.
This is the only driver that is updated automatically. The rest go to optional updates automatically, which I ignore.

The Windows Updates haven't touched my vid card driver (from August 2022), so it must be working. :-)

So why are you saying "Microsoft" is upgrading the drivers?

If "Microsoft" was updating those they would show in Windows Update History under "Drivers".

BTW, are you running Lenovo Vantage on that laptop? If so, that's what may (not sure it handles AMD drivers) be updating the drivers.

My mistake. It is in fact listed under driver updates. I do not have Vantage installed.

I use this a lot to hide display driver updates that Windows insists on installing after every update.
These drivers are old and problematic, something Microsoft does not seem to understand.
The link takes me to a page which tries to explain what is being deprecated, and System Maintenance is on that list, with no clear indication of what will replace it.

weird. I do not get the troubleshooter being "deprecated" message, when running wushowhide.diagcab in Win10.
maybe it occurs only in Win11
