Microsoft 365 Insider Blog:
Hey, Microsoft 365 Insiders! I’m Saloni Bansal, a Product Manager on the PowerPoint team. I’m excited to introduce a new enhancement to Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, for Mac, and for the web that makes refining and collaborating on presentations easier: Comments stay with the content they are referring to when moved within a presentation.
Keep comments with your content in PowerPoint
Previously, when you cut and pasted content in Microsoft PowerPoint, any comments associated with it would get left behind in the original location. We heard from many of you that this made tracking discussions or revisions confusing and difficult, and could lead to other issues. Now, when you move content within a presentation, either to a different part of the same slide or to a new slide, your comments move, too. No more losing crucial insights or important context! You can save time and ensure accuracy. Try it out in PowerPoint for the web and let us know how it enhances your workflow!
How it works
- Open a new or existing presentation in PowerPoint for Windows or for Mac, or navigate to PowerPoint for the web.
- Add a comment to a slide object (text, text box, shape, table, or SmartArt).
- Cut and paste the object onto any slide in the presentation and notice how its comments move along with it.
Scenarios to try
Here are some ways to experience this improvement:- Move content within the same slide: Select a sentence with a comment linked to it, cut it, and paste it elsewhere in the same slide, and watch as the comment moves, too.
- Move content between slides: Cut a shape or text box with comments from one slide and paste it into another, and the feedback will shift to that new place.
- Copy content: Copy and paste a commented object, and the comments will stay with the original content – but the replicated version will start fresh with no comments. (This is aligned with the current experience.)
Availability
The ability to see comments move when cutting and pasting content is available to users running PowerPoint for the web, or:- Windows: Version 2503 (Build 18623.20178)
- Mac: Version 16.96 (Build 25041326)
