You can now Recall emails in Outlook for Mac

 Microsoft 365 Insider Blog:

Greetings, Microsoft 365 Insiders! I am Priya Ganta, a Product Manager with the Outlook team. I am pleased to announce that the ability to recall emails, a feature many of you love in Outlook for Windows and Outlook for the web, is now available in Outlook for Mac.

Recall emails in Outlook for Mac

We have all experienced that moment of regret after hitting the Send button on an email, when we quickly realize a mistake was made – whether it was forgetting an attachment, sending it to the incorrect recipient, or spotting a significant typo.

Recall in Outlook allows you to retract an email that you sent by mistake. This can be particularly crucial in professional settings, where sending incorrect information can lead to confusion, or erode trust or confidence. Recall has been one of the most requested features in our feedback portal, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring it to more users!

How it works

  1. After you’ve sent a message that contains an error you want to correct, select the message in the Sent Items folder.
  2. Select Recall from the context menu to delete the email from all the recipients’ mailboxes.

NOTE: You can also select Recall in the triage toolbar.

  3. You will receive a status email about whether the recall was successful or not.

Tips and tricks

  • If you would like to resend a recalled email, select Resend from the context menu.
  • A recalled email may fail if the message is very old. If the recall fails, send a follow-up email to correct the mistake manually. For example, you could say, “I’m sorry for misspelling your name, [correct spelling of the recipient’s name]. Please let me know if you have any questions about my previous message.” Or, “Apologies for forgetting to include [recipient] in my email – they’ve now been added!”

Requirements

To be able to recall emails in Outlook for Mac, Outlook for Windows, and Outlook for the web, both you and the recipient must be using Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Exchange email accounts within the same organization.

Availability

This feature is available to Beta Channel users running Version 16.94 (Build 25011325) or later, and will be rolling out to Current Channel (Preview) users from February 2025.

Features are released over some time to ensure things are working smoothly. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as an Insider, have had the opportunity to try it.

Feedback

We’d love to hear from you! To provide feedback in Outlook, please select Help > Feedback > Report a Problem or Help > Contact Support if you are a Microsoft 365 subscriber. To suggest a feature, select Help > Feedback > Suggest a Feature.
