You can now request delivery and read receipts in Outlook for Android and iOS

 Microsoft 365 Insider Blog:

Hi, Insiders! My name is Beth Jester, and I’m a Product Manager on the Outlook team. I’m excited to share that we’re bringing a feature you love in Outlook for Windows, Outlook for the web, and Outlook for Mac to Outlook for Android and iOS: the ability to request delivery or read receipts, or respond to a request from someone else to confirm you’ve seen their email.

Delivery and read receipts in Outlook for Android and iOS

Delivery and read receipts aren’t just an easy way to ensure important or urgent messages make it safely to the right person and are opened – they can also save you time and streamline communication by giving you a checkpoint to refer to before you send a follow-up email. This feature gives both the sender and the recipient control, meaning that you can opt in or out of sending read receipts depending on the situation. Additionally, you can set a default response for when others request a read receipt from you rather than respond every time, making the entire process more efficient.

How it works

To request delivery and read receipts

  1. Open a new or existing email draft in Outlook on your Android or iOS device.
  2. Select the + button on the toolbar, and then tap the Receipts icon.

NOTE: You can customize your toolbar to move the Receipts icon out of the overflow menu by selecting the + button, and then Reorder in the right-hand corner of the menu.
  3. Select the type of receipt you want to receive: a delivery receipt (confirmation that an email arrived in the recipient’s inbox), a read receipt (confirmation that the recipient opened the email), or both.

NOTE: For emails with multiple recipients, this selection will apply to all email addresses included. The recipient(s) must also approve your request upon receipt for you to receive a read receipt.
  4. When you return to drafting your email, you will see a banner confirming what types of receipts will be requested for the email when it is sent.

To respond to a read receipt request

  1. When you receive an email from a sender who has requested a read receipt, you will be prompted at the top of the message to choose if you would like to send the receipt. If you do, tap the Send button on the banner.

NOTE: If you do not wish to send the receipt, no action is needed.
  2. The first time you receive a read receipt request in Outlook on your Android or iOS device, you will also be prompted to choose how you would like read receipts to be handled in the future.

NOTE: You can change your read receipt preference anytime by selecting Settings > Mail > Read Receipts.

Availability

This feature is available to users running:
  • Android Beta: Version 4.2439.0 or later.
  • iOS TestFlight: Version 4.2437.0 or later.
This feature is expected to start rolling out to Production users soon.

Features are released over time to ensure things are working smoothly. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes, we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as an Insider, have had the opportunity to try it.

Feedback

We’d love to know what you think of this feature! Send us feedback by opening the side panel in Outlook on your Android or iOS device and choosing Help & Feedback > Send Feedback.
