Welcome, as always. Like most fairly savvy users, I have mine set NOT to automatically update. I watch the TBird forum from time to time, to see whether there’s any howling about the new version. It’s mostly been smooth sailing since 115 came out, though. Glad you’re using the Bird.

I would not use anything else and I've been using TB for far too many moons to count ... lol

I've not had any issues with any of the updates for a very long time and I usually update straight away. Besides, they don't release bugs, just undocumented features ... lol

Agreed, on both counts. Wish the Windows devs were as careful as the MozTBird devs.

Do you get notified when there is an update?

I don't and although I have my settings as "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them", I just checked and have now gone from 121.0 Beta 6 to 122.0 Beta 3.

Just a heads-up for Thunderbird Mail users: I've been reading a lot of Thunderbird documentation over the last few days, and I've come across several references to the planned release of Thunderbird 128, the first major update for Thunderbird 115. Looks as though it's tentatively planned for July 2024. I've tried to verify this, but so far have had no luck. It may not be anything more than a rumor. However, TB users who want to wait and see whether there are major problems in a brand new version would do well to back up their TB installation completely before the end of June, and set TB to NOT automatically update, before they get a surprise update around that time. I would guess that there will be a lot of online talk from the TB people and from users before the release happens (if it happens). There certainly was a lot of broohaha before the release of 115 (AKA "Supernova").

Thanks for the heads up once again. I have just changed my update settings to "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them" and I already have backups for TB on my NAS, should I ever need them.

With any luck, it will turn out to be a fizzer, but you never know. At least I am prepared now ... thanks!

And, apparently Mozilla is already involved with the Android version, but, they're going to keep the K-9 Mail branding for now.

Just a heads-up.

Thunderbird 115.7.0 was released on 23 January. It's now the 20th of February, so look for an update to either 115.7.1 or 115.8.0 in the next few days -- probably by 23 February. If you want to wait until the dust settles before upgrading, be sure your setting in Settings > General > Updates is "Check for updates, but let me choose ..."

Thanks, Wolfzz. Beeen watching for that. Just checked and we've only had 8.1 for two weeks, though. I thought it was longer in the tooth than that. Ahhnnn, I've been wrong before.
