It does it to my USBs as well.
I just plugged in two USB sticks and look at the navigation info.
The #1 is the Recovery and the #2 is the space that is unused on
that USB drive.
The Patriot is also counted twice. It has always been the same for me.

Did you try running the .reg file from the link in post #3? I had my USB's showing up twice in the navigation pane, and that .reg file took care of that duplication.
