  1. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

@jumanji I bought the SSD drive in Currys. I am using the drive as a backup. Fortunately all of the data on there will be duplicated in about 4 other places so whilst I agree that it's annoying not to have got to the bottom of the issue, loss of the data wouldn't be critical.
  2. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

@jumanji The SSD drive is the same on my husband's PC. I think it is probably correctly showing as a USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device. I didn't load the WD Discovery software when I purchased this drive as I put it on when I bought the WD Elements drive which I returned. I...
  3. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

Thanks for the replies. Here's an update. For the last couple of days things seem to have started to work properly. I have no idea why. After I last posted I switched the PC off and went to bed. I don't have Fast Start-up on. The next day, I plugged the drive in and ejected it a couple of times...
  4. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

@Bree Thanks for your reply. I intend to assign a permanent drive letter to it but I am loathe to do this until I get this fixed as I did this with the WD Elements HDD drive I recently bought and returned. I ended up scrubbing the drive letters which affected my mapped NAS drive letters and I...
  5. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

@jumanji I have done as you suggested and here is the screenshot of Disk Management with just the WD SSD drive. I don't have any partitioning software. After ejecting and plugging the drive back in, the drive letter temporarily disappeared from Disk management but reappeared again afetr a...
  6. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

@Ghot I think before I attempt to reformat the drive I'll wait for a reply from Western Digital - I have put a support request in and I don't want to invalidate the warranty. I'm not a techie so don't know how to disconnect the Akasa panel  as I had this PC built for me in a local shop.
  7. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

@Ghot Yes, it's Disk 4. Will reformatting as NTFS solve the issue? The reason I ask is the drive behaves correctly in my husband's Windows 11 desktop PC.
  8. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

Thanks for the replies. I've been doing a bit more testing. Here is where I'm at now. When I reboot my PC and plug the drive into the back this is what I see the first time Windows Explorer Safely Remove Then after ejecting and reinserting, I get this. The greyed out My Passport (E) is...
  9. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

@Ghot Unfortunately, it doesn't work in the back either after the first time after a reboot.
  10. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

Thank you for the suggestion @Bree I have gone to check this and it looks like it is already enabled.
  11. Drive letter not being assigned to new external SSD drive

Windows 11 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4169) I hope this is the right place to post my problem. I have just purchased a 2Tb WD My Passport SSD drive (WDBAGF0020BGY-WESN). I inserted the drive into my USB-C port on the rear of my desktop PC and it recognised it and gave it a drive letter. I safely...
  12. A driver cannot load on this device

@kelper I didn't have Hidden items ticked but it made no difference when I did tick it. I have left a message with Cyberlink although I'm not holding my breath that I'll get a detailed answer. If needed, I'll install the Everything program to see if anything shows up.
  13. A driver cannot load on this device

Thank you for your input. This software was installed by the shop who built my PC but I did a clean installation of Windows after this. The file couldn't have survived a clean installation, could it? Since the above screenshot I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and I am not getting...
  14. A driver cannot load on this device

@x BlueRobot Thank you once again for your reply. This was the result of the signature verification. The log file makes no mention of the specific driver. Would this be because I never let it load? The command prompt gave this result: ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified...
  15. A driver cannot load on this device

I'm a novice so I do not know whether it is signed. How do I check please? The driver would presumably have been on the CD that I was loading the program from. The CD is asbout 10 years old. I am not sure which part of the complete media suite it is connected to and do not know whether I will...
