Hi, Please tell , how do i share a folder in c: to other pc. I turned on network discovery. I could see the sharing computer in other pc. I have given permission to everyone to access that folder . But getting name not found error , when i give the other computer \username in this computer. When i click the name of this pc in other computer, i get windows cannot access the computer and i get you do not have permission to access.
The crux of the idea is I download some software, and it is stored in download folder. i want this folder to be shared to other pc, so that i need not download the same to the other computer . I can just access the download folder and click the exe on other pc. what i am missing , please tell. Also tell , how to give and check names in permission in this pc.

If you do not want to have to enter credentials each time you access a shared folder, do this in each computer:

Go to settings>network & Internet>advanced Network Settings>make sure network discovery and file & printer sharing are both toggled to ON.
under More Settings click "advanced sharing settings"
A. make sure current profile is set to private network
B: select All Networks
C: toggle password protected sharing to OFF

From there set up sharing on any folder, file, or drive(other than C:) you want to share making sure in sharing properties "give access to" is set as "everyone"
I strongly advise you do not try to share your C: drive. You can share your entire user folder, individual folders, individual files, or entire secondary drives, just not your C: drive.

Once sharing is set up from each computer you should see the other computers' names in your network map.

I will tell you that for some people, the network map does not populate correctly. If that be the case you will have to access the other computers by either ip address or computer name. You can make shortcuts to each computer using this file path

Open File Explorer.
In the address bar, type the following: \\computername (replace "computername" with the name of the computer you're connecting to).
Press Enter.
You can also use ip address in address bar in place of computer name

I’m pretty sure to access C: over your network you need to use \\MachineName\c$

Sir, I was having trouble in my computer for some days. So the delay in replying.I have done all the things but getting the same permission error in the other computer. Should i do anything more than enabling network detection in other computer. Why this permission error. access denied. you do not have permission is the message, when i click the computer icon of the sharing computer in the other computer. I hope some will guide me through each step so that i could watch if i missed any step. the permission grant is somewhat lengthy.
remote desktop is an alternative , but I want to access without any outside tools

Do you use a pin to access your PC’s when you boot in to Windows?
You need to have logged into Windows at least once with your username/password on each computer.

Networking isn’t my strongest asset.
Not sure about the permissions error but my experience is that the username/password is needed at least once (as mentioned) at the sign in screen for Windows on each PC you want to connect to.

Yes. I use a pin to login to the my pc in windows 11 pc. My other pc does not require at all

Log in with a username/password on each PC. You can set it back to PIN and auto login after you have done so.
Then try again.

I do not want even pin in this pc. I want to login to the desktop without any hitch because, so many persons are using this pc and it is a cumbersome remembering user name password etc

You only have to login with username/password once, then you can change it back again. But if you’re not willing to do so, that’s your choice.
I wish you luck finding another soloution.

Hi, I did not mean it differently. I get one note syncing even without needing spacing . It asks me to buy storage. Some one has enabled a kind of outlook account with some name, which prompts me to add this pin. I do not know, if i could login to this pc without this pin. Likewise, windows 11 have some features which were forced upon the users to login to the computer. The earlier systems did not ask for pin etc..I already have this pin, and having another user name and password , I think, it will confuse me still. thanks

I don’t know another way to explain it to you.

You only need to use the username/password once
Then you can go back to using the pin from then on.

You don’t need to login with user/pass after that. You should still be able to connect to the other computer after you change it back to pin login.

You need to do this at least once so the computers know what their own credentials are.

Otherwise you cannot connect from a different computer.

Then reboot and change it back to the pin.

You should never have to use the user/pass again

You need to do this on each computer with it’s user pass. Just once, then from now on you should be able to connect remotely, even after you have changed back to pin login.

On computer 1

Reboot, at the sign in screen change the options to password sign in
Sign in to Windows.
After you have signed in, reboot
Change the options back to PIN

That is all (you don’t need to log back in with user/pass on this computer)

On computer 2 (with the auto sign in)

Boot into Windows, the don’t reboot “Sign Out” instead
Change the options and sign in back in with password
Sign out
Change back to pin and sign in again (or reboot)

That is all (you don’t need to log back in with user/pass on this computer)

Now you should be able to connect remotely to your laptop from your computer using the laptops credentials (user/pass)

Now you should be able to connect remotely to your computer from your laptop using the computers credentials (user/pass)

As long as you have setup for sharing/remote access correctly

This is what I have to do toy connect properly via remote local access.
