I like CCleaner's simple interface and tools but I don't like the subscription model.
Any recommendations? Lifetime license.

There are good features like driver updates + performance mode. I don't know.

You don't want to use those features, they are useless if you want to update drivers visit the website of the device manufacturer to download the driver.

OK. The new Disk Cleanup.
The old one is still there also.

I agree with your opinion on Storage Sense. I don't trust it.

I've looked at the CCleaner subscription and have come to the conclusion that I don't need any part of it. The free version is perfect for my needs and has been for decades.

I turned Storage Sense ON for both my computers a year and a half ago. It does what Microsoft says it will do and works just fine.

I think there is a lot built into Windows these days to not need CCleaner personally. And in addition, the odd manufacturer program. Plus with NVME drives there is software like Samsung Magician.

I find this feature specifically very good. Not sure if I saw something like it anywhere on Windows. Not sure how it puts programs to sleep, it turns them off. No background activity at all unless you open the programs. It reminds me of Android app optimizations.

Doesn't work with all programs, only UWP apps I think.

My view on all these is that if a program requires special 3rd party apps to install / uninstall itself then you shouldn't have that application on your computer. The basic Windows operation is usually good enough and any sensible application will provide a process for uninstalling the package.

I'm not against sensible 3rd party apps but install / uninstall is such a basic part of the OS that any app that doesn't conform to Windows standards for doing this should be avoided at all costs.

These days applications like Ccleaner are going the way of the Dodo -- the same as most consumer grade Anti Virus programs -- WD in the latest versions of W11 is more than sufficient too for domestic situations.

CCleaner is more like an optimizing tool than an uninstalling tool. Updates all drivers, put apps on sleep, startup manager, auto cache & temp cleaner. Yeh, I know all this can be done on OS but they are scattered everywhere.
