Windows 11
I recently upgraded my desktop computer from Windows 10 to Windows 11. My phone (Moto G Stylus 5G 2024) would always show up when I connected it, and the phone would popup a menu with 3 choices when connected by a USB cable. It still does this when I connect to my work laptop (microsoft Surface 7) which is also running windows 11, so it seems to be a setting that has changed. I got distracted while connecting my phone and I think I dismissed the popup. Now the phone won't show up in the computer anymore. I've tried following tutorials, tried rebooting the phone and the computer, no change. I can't find the phone now in device manager, I tried changing all the autoplay settings to "open folder to view files" in system settings. When I connect the phone, there is no longer any notification to swipe down and choose 'transfer files' as before, there is no connection noted at all on this one computer. It works as before on my Surface 7.

Any ideas? I must have turned something off by accident and I can't figure out how to turn it back on.

Is your Autoplay setting enabled?

  • Press [ windows key + i ]
  • Search 'Autoplay' or navigate to 'Bluetooth & devices' and scroll down to AutoPlay
  • Make sure the toggle is on

Optionally you may need to double-check on your phone for the usb settings

1) Last suggestion above - check phone for usb setting message after connecting to computer
2) In File Explorer, click on This Computer. Does the phone show up?

I did make sure that Auto play was turned on in my devices on my desktop.

I am no longer getting the USB setting message on my phone. It was there before, and is there when I connect to another computer.

In File Explorer on my desktop, the phone no longer shows up. It used to, but now it doesn't. Makes me think I turned off some setting.

You know the popup message you get on your computer when you plugin a thumb drive and windows asks you what to do. I choose open to see files, but I'm afraid I chose "do nothing" when it showed up, as I was distracted.

If it's not showing on the phone, I would try another cable

Huh,

putting it in another port caused it to show up normally. I wonder what's going on...

RE: diff port working - check Device Manager to see if there are any issues with any of your USB devices / hubs. Also, does anything else work in the USB port that the phone doesn't work in?

I guess it was the cable. I took the cable to my laptop and it didn't work there either. The cable isn't very old, hasn't been used much or moved around or kinked or anything. It's weird for it to suddenly just stop working. Noot is Kaput
