At the moment, the only external I have connected is my Seagate 5 TB (or maybe 4). So . . . The other two invalid drivers are to my Brother laser printer.

I'm surprised you don't have the exclamation mark for the drivers in Device Manager

Hi there

Why on earth bother with this product if it has all this hassle over install.
Macrium Free works perfectly .

Gparted and rsync as well work if you have WSL installed also free and can clone partitions or HDD´s as well as the venerable dd if you again have the WSL installed.

You can even make bootable windows systems on physical vhdx files amd boot and run from external hard drives just using 100% bog standard windows commands so you can even back these up using file explorer !!! -- the vhdx files are bog standard Windows files - no UEFI / MSR partitions needed on those either.

I'm not against decent 3rd party software - whether paid for or free but it must be fit for purpose and not cause a hassle with installation etc.

For me, problems like @Wynona is having trying to install Aomei becomes a challenge.

@Wynona, The WD driver only shows in Device Manager when you have a WD drive plugged into the USB port. It's listed under Other devices.

With @Wynona 's stated objective of looking to use a package to backup windows with a simple user interface to teach senior students the importance and methods of backups, I think that Aomei is the way to go. What I will say is that it may be better to teach using the free version as it will cover the needs of most beginners and less experienced users.

I have been using the Free and Pro versions of Aomei backupper for many years without any issues with installation or usage.

As the versions that I have used always come with a lifetime support system and licence I am a little concerned that the One Year licenced version that has been causing issues is causing these issues, I would suggest cleaning all traces and try the free version - Also the support system provided by Aomei over the years has been exemplary (the issues have always been caused by my errors or hardware issues and not the software)

I will stick with Macrium Reflect; however, I am always on the lookout for programs that will be easy for my students to understand and use. Aomei Backupper seems to be one of those. The learning curve with Macrium is a tad bit steeper than Aomei.

Since it seems no one else here has the problems I have, I am inclined to believe the fault lies with my system, rather than Aomei.

This is a dual boot system with dual monitors. Also, from what I can see from the little I've experienced with backing up, it's not going to back up all of my drives and partitions at once. My students, however, have laptops with one un-partitioned HDD/SSD, so may not have the problems I do.

You hit the nail on the head, @barman58! You stated my objective exactly. A simple user interface and small learning curve will help my students immeasurably.

The first version that didn't work was the Standard (free) one on Windows 11. I'm not too sure, but it may be that it doesn't work on Windows 11 yet.

Then I tried to use the Trial version. That one immediately told me it had expired. Even though I'd never used a trial version in my life! Still on Windows 11.

Then when the link to the free one year Pro version was posted, I tried that one. I'm told the product key is invalid, although it's right there in the "readme" to be copied and pasted. I even tried to type it in, but no luck. Still in Windows 11.

I have been back and forth between Windows 10 and Windows 11 since those failures.

I guess the next step is to try Revo free to see if I can get every last smidgen of Aomei off both Windows 10 and Windows 11 and start over. I do agree that the free version will be adequate for my students; thus, I need to get it up and running before I try to teach it to them.

Well, glory be . . . After using the free version of Revo Uninstall on Windows 10, then scanning for and removing leftover bits and pieces, I managed to get Aomei Backupper Standard installed and have backed up my system. I still don't know what I backed up, but I'm sure I can figure it out through reading the manual.

Now, over to Windows 11 to get all the bits and pieces of that gone too. We'll see what happens next . . .

Edit:

And it gets stranger . . . After uninstalling with Revo, I reinstalled Aomei Backupper Standard on Windows 11 and whaddaya know . . . it installed and I now have a backup of Windows 11.

There are no invalid drivers to be seen, and Aomei found Windows 11 and backed it up!

Methinks there must have been something done somewhere besides on my computer, since I haven't changed anything.

Just a word of warning about AOMEI Backupper.
Over the years, I have seen some serious issues arise from it.

I am what you may call a backup enthusiast and have tried numerous backup applications over the years.

The positive side of AOMEI Backupper is that it has a very nice interface and is very simple to use.
The negative side is that it can cause complications on some systems.
I have never been able to isolate why some systems can seemingly have no problems, and some systems can be rendered unbootable.
I've had numerous discussions about it over the years on various forums. The official AOMEI support forum is not much help either.

Uninstallation can also present problems on some systems and once again render the system unbootable.
I have had to resort to third party uninstallers and even manual registry edits to fix some systems.

I don't wish to get into a debate about it or derail the thread. I understand that some systems don't have any problems.
I am just passing on my findings with it.

Final thought...
Don't rely on one image backup application, especially if you're testing another.
