Solved Asus GTX 1080 and VGA white light on MB

The issue I am having is I am getting 1 long and 4 short beeps when I start up. I have the Asus Z590-A MB and the Asus VG34VQL1B monitor using D-port to connect to Asus GTX 1080. I installed the GPU and all was fine. Now I noticed the white light on MB which is VGA error. I have CSM already disabled long before I ever got the 1080 card. When I boot up with the monitor and video card I get 1 long and 4 short beeps which after googling seems to be a memory issue. I don't have a memory issue because if I unplug the VG34VOL1B monitor and plug in my SmartTV and boot up the computer. I get no beeps and the computer boots up perfect. So that means I don't have a memory issue. If I plug in the Smart TV and boot the computer and after booting up I plug in the Asus VG34VQL1B monitor everything is fine and there is no VGA white light on MB. So there must be a conflict between the ASUS monitor and the GPU. BTW, I did try the GPU in another pcie slot and same beeps. I can't figure out how to fix this issue. Greatly appreciate any replies. Also I have no beeps or VGA white light errors booting up with my older Gigabyte 1060 at all. So got to be a setting with the MB or GPU. At least I am hoping.

    I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.

You could try redo-ing the Nvdia driver. Or replacing the cable that goes from the vid card to the monitor.



DDU Instructions - Nvidia
1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get the Nvidia WHQL driver, here... Nvidia Drivers - Guru3D
Unhook the internet completely.
3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the Nvidia driver to install.
[See pics below]. If it want's to reboot, let it.
Rehook the internet.

The Nvidia driver website, doesn't seem to have the "Manual Search" any more. So I use Guru3D now.


They're also "official" Nvidia drivers.


At Guru3D I have the option to download ANY Nvidia driver.
It seems that option is no longer available at the Nvidia site.

May also try just re-seating the vid card. Might be some dust bunnies, down in the slot. 8-)

According to the manual for that motherboard 1 long followed by 4 short beeps indicates "hardware component failure"

Also there is a bios update available from Nvidia for Display Port issues. NVIDIA Graphics Firmware Update Tool for DisplayPort 1.3 and 1.4 Displays
I never thought about the Nvidia Graphics Firmware Update. This worked awesome! I have both monitors still connected and after the firmware update there are no beeps and no white VGA error light. I thank you very much for the fix. I can now stop pulling my hair out...well whats left there lol. I would also like to thank everyone for the replies. I greatly appreciate them. BTW, Before I posted here, I did move the card to another slot and uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled and only selected the drivers and not Experience. But that didn't work. The only way the VGA light would not come on is if I unplugged the monitor and let the computer boot with the Smart TV and then plug in the monitor. But that only lasted until I had to reboot :(. It is now fixed. Thanks again.

Some are quick to jump on video driver issues however it is apparent that your issue was occurring at POST which is before the OS, let alone video drivers, were even loaded.
