Yeah, your speakers also aren't helping you out. Here's my speakers. They have an output, so my setup has my speakers feeding to the sub so when the volume of the speakers goes up or down so does the sub.

The sub also has its own volume control but with my configuration, it just determines how loud I want based on speaker volume.

With that said as my system has more input/output options than your setup, I don't have a working solution for your situation.

Of course not, but the site still has the word "science" in its name. Maybe I was just having bad luck, but on a site like that, when I click on a thread that has the make and model of a DAC in its thread title, the very least thing I want to see is some "scientific" explanation of why Doug Schroeder is a guy who probaby stinks. lol

I was re-reading your post here again, and have to say I'm baffled as to why you'd plug your DAC into a subwoofer???

My position is the DAC should never be plugged into a sub because the sub does not produce the full range frequencies a standard speaker would, so you are in effect throttling the DAC.

The Sub employs a Distribution Crossover which balances the output to the subwoofer itself as well as the output to the Line Out to the Edifier's.
It's tunable with a Low Pass Filter and Phase adjustment..., the sub has it's own volume which doesn't affect the Edifier's.
Kind of weird but, it works.

I was just reading the owner's manual for your Edifiers and came across this note that "might" help with your CD player...

Note: If two audio sources are connected simultaneously, both signals will play. To dedicate audio output from one source, decrease the volume or power off the unselected device

Anyway, based on that, you could still have the line out to the Edifiers, and also have the CD player line out to the "Aux" on the Edifiers. This was (in theory, based on the note above), you could still keep PC connectivity and CD player. Simply make sure the CD player is powered off when not in use. Not the best solution as you're sharing a line in with different sources, and you can't easily disable the PC unless you put it to sleep or turn it off while playing a CD, but... also note you might try playing with the remote to see if you actually can select the "PC / Aux" inputs.

And, yeah, those speakers weren't really designed work with a sub otherwise they'd have a line out as exampled by my Audioengines.

Anyway, just a thought.

That's how I had it last night but, then I don't get any sub bass for the CD Player. Like I said last night, the Edifier's don't have enough oomph by themselves.

Yeah, if they're that sort after, I'd hold onto them too. On the flipside, if you're never going to use the why let money slip away. They may even pay for an upgraded DAC

Yup. I'm almost good now. I've got the NAD and Rotel across the room from the Sub, so, no skipping..., everything is fed through the NAD and sounds quite good. Heck, I can even listen to the old fashioned radio!!!

Only thing is, I've got to replace the 12' RCA's from the NAD to the Sub..., using an old set of Radio Shack ones for now.

Been posting a lot at Steve Hoffman forums and just posted this...

But serious, I just got this a couple of days ago, and can't stop playing it. One of Miles best electric albums. Two of my favorites on this total 1 hour 4 minutes, and 19 seconds! He Loved Him Madly - 32.16, and 32.09, Calypso Frelimo - 32.09. The other favs on here are Rated X, and Billy Preston. Just a truly great album (if you're a Miles fan).

BTW, what some non-Miles fans may not realize is that Miles also played organ and piano, and some keyboards. This is prominently featured not only on this CD, but many of his electric album releases. All four track I listed as my favorite are more organ laced than horn laced.

I believe AUDIRVĀNA came out on Apple first. And yes, they sure gauged the pockets of the Apple user. Now they came over to Windows to gauge the Windows user. People tend to forget that there is luxury and then there is the Wannabe. It's kind of like some traits of clinical Narcissism. One trait that a Clinical Narcissist has is that they inflate their ego to appeal better than what they really are. With AUDIRVĀNA, they inflate their price to make it look like the product is much more luxurious when in reality, it isn't. You can see that right on the website's landing page. BTW, I was a sucker for buying the app.

Just did an A/B between the ripped Cassandra Wilson CD in FLAC in JRiver vs the CD played in the CD player and though they're very close, the CD player produces just a hint more detail and depth, especially in the bass tones where they're a tad smoother (rounded). In JRiver they're slightly sharper and more definitive. Here I prefer rounded and smoother as the bass notes appear to extend further out.

With that, this also shows how good JRiver and my DAC work together as the differences as so subtle as to be barely noticeable. Also, the fact that The DAC has a built-in selectable filter system, which can also be turned off. Here if something sounds a bit too harsh or "digital" I can select from 1 of 5 options to dial in the signal. This only work with PCM signals, not analog.

BTW, it's not always obvious anything is happening when selecting a setting, so this is where a few listening tests, and experiments with the settings come into play. Yeah, its part pseudoscience, but this is what "my ears" hear
