I just received my Beelink Mini PC. It comes with an instruction manual containing descriptions of the panel Buttons and Ports and the following detailed and illustrated instructions: [RAM and SSD installation and SSD installation].

While researching Mini PCs I noticed that some required the buyer to install (RAM, etc.) components. This one seemed to have the components already installed, however I interpreted the instructions for, say RAM installation, to be telling me to move the components from relatively flush with the motherboard “to a 30 degree angle” for heat distribution reasons.

Q1) Is this unit (I know folk on the forum purchased exactly this unit) intended to be plug-and-play? (In other words, should I disregard the manual instructions.)

Q2) The hard drive on this unit is labeled HDD. I understood it to have a 1TB NVME 2280 SSD. Why is the drive labeled HDD?

Thanks

RE Q1, if assembly instructions are given it pretty much means something has to be put in the proper place in the case, on the mainboard.

RE Q2 Lots of people haven't changed to the newer nomenclature, a drive is a drive but there's more than 2 types. I have machines with HDDs SATA connections [single drive per cable], SSDs with SATA connections, NVMe M.2 SSD and eMMC SSD. The old ones were IDE which can be called PATA [Parallel], could have one or two drives on the same cable, one was Master and one was Slave. The eMMC in one of my Notebooks is soldered onto the mainboard, can't change it, is the cheapest I ever got, over a year ago.

My reply to both would be that it’s a generic manual.

I saved a NVMe M.2 2280 drive of 256GB from a Notebook that was broken, the 2280 part means it is 22mm wide and 80mm long, there's shorter ones and important to know which for making sure they fit. Also have a 2280 1TB drive in a pocketable USB case.

J-man, to answer your specific concerns. If you bought a Beelink advertised as a Beelink Mini PC, 32GB DDR4 1TB NVME 2280 SSD | AMD Ryzen 7, then I am guessing that’s what you got.

The only way to know for sure or piece of mind is to unplug EVERYTHING from the PC and open it.
Inside, you should see something like this (this is what your SSD will look like)

For hells sake, please don’t touch anything inside. Take a photo of the guts of the PC, post it for us then replace the screws you removed and put it back together again.

Also, give us the actual link to the product you purchased, please.

Hi mate, if I didn’t know better I’d say that was just a casing and your NVME SSD is inside it? I’d also guess the casing can accomodate various types of drives.

I am speculating.

  1. “Remove the disk cover”
  2. “Load the disk into the Corresponding port”
Meaning different drive types are likely catered for.

Put it back together, plug your peripheral’s in and compute. Also, listen to L.

Q1) Is this unit (I know folk on the forum purchased exactly this unit) intended to be plug-and-play? (In other words, should I disregard the manual instructions.)
The Mini came preassembled so you shouldn't have to do anything. Why would Beelink put the ram in the wrong way?
In your photo, is that the drive itself or is it a extra drive bay so you can install another drive?

I can answer that. It's an enclosure for a 2.5 inch sata ssd drive or 2.5 in. sata hdd. The enclosure is attached to the mobo with a very delicate ribbon cable. To connect a drive, you just slide it into the enclosure. Lots of youtube videos about it.

I was thinking that but with my tired old eyes I wasn't sure. I'm way over due for a eye exam.

What do I win?

The Mini came preassembled so you shouldn't have to do anything.
Thank you.

Why would Beelink put the ram in the wrong way?
I was just wondering if it had packed the ram flush with the motherboard for assembly, packing, shipping reasons and that "raising the ram up 30°" might facilitate better heat distribution. not unreasonable...

Get one with a window, various levels, and accessories (the shishkabob device, a light, the rotating gerbil cage, etc.) Its versatile, no more expensive than the basic shake & bake, and easier to clean.

My wife and I have a Emeril air fryer. It came with all of that except for the cage. I had to buy it online. Since we bought it, we hardly ever use our oven and microwave.
