Here's a page that pits the i5 against the i7 (amongst other things). It wasn't too confusing to me, so shouldn't be to you. I was surprised that one paragraph said the i5 is adequate for whatever . . .Thanks that's really helpful. Must check which i5 is in it. Presumably it's an ok one as haven't seen any complaints.
That is a point. How reliable are they? Eg macbooks are supposed to be reliable (and even more expensive). The SSD is upgradeable but I don't suppose anything else is fixable.
Lol. He was spoilt in having a top spec Spectre X360 before (got it second hand for a very reasonable price) but this is a big-ish birthday present as well as for college.
