A BD scan detected a *false* virus. There was no option to exempt this file from further scans, so "Take No Action" was selected. Without informing me or offering me the option, BD set the disk to Read Only. I can't find any option in BD to correct this.

Diskpart is unable to reset this parameter.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

An irritating thing with a new install of Win11 on 3 Notebooks since Dec. has left the drive Encrypted with Bitlocker but did not ask for nor provide a key for gaining access. I found the issue on the first setup when booted to a Linux Mint LiveUSB and couldn't access the system drive, I rebooted into Windows and removed Bitlocker. Check in Disk Management to see if that is an issue, could be BD is honoring that encryption.

I would never use BD so have no real experience with it.
If you do a search with google for the exact wording of your post's title you get a pretty comprehensive AI response that gives a number of suggestions. In fact the google response gave a lot more information than a similar search in co-pilot and chatgpt.
Might be worth a look.

You didn't list which version of BD you have... but I have BD Internet Security (paid).
To exempt a file from the scan, go to...

Protection > Antivirus > Open > Settings > Manage Exceptions > +Add an Exception

I've been using BD (paid) since 2013. It's never set any of my drives to read only, no matter what it found.

Interesting thread! I run BD poverty (free), is this the cause of my recent drive crash? 😲

Dunno.
I ran BD free back in 2012-ish, but again... getting a false positive, never set any of my disks to read only ??

In both your case and the OP's case... I would look elsewhere for the causes.

1. Have you submitted the relevant file to Virustotal anyway, just to be sure?
2. ANY AV package that locks the disk because of a single possibly suspect file warrants replacement.
Have you fully disabled BD before trying to change the drive status?
3. Is the disk an SSD? Failing SSD's can set to R/O for protection. Do you have a recent image?
4. The internet being what it is often yields partial answers did you use Diskpart correctly? ie BOTH ATTR commands?

1. What file?
2. No proof that BD was the cause. PC would not boot so could'nt change drive status.
3. Yes & its 6 months old & I do have a image.

Also check Control Panel > Bitlocker drive encryption

You didn't list which version of BD you have... but I have BD Internet Security (paid).
To exempt a file from the scan, go to...

Protection > Antivirus > Open > Settings > Manage Exceptions > +Add an Exception

I've been using BD (paid) since 2013. It's never set any of my drives to read only, no matter what it found.
BD AntiVirus Plus Paid ver.

I've added the flagged files into exceptions and run a new scan. BD skips the files and returns no errors.

Still can't change from Read Only.

Is there an "easy" to turn BD completely off? If so, it's not obvious within the interface...

Can you show a screenshot of what is read-only? The OS should not be read-only, this would be changed in disk manager or diskpart from the command line

I’ve had this before on my flash drive, it could be due to drive failing. When they are failing they go into fail mode so you can get your files before it fails altogether.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
1. What file?
2. No proof that BD was the cause. PC would not boot so could'nt change drive status.
3. Yes & its 6 months old & I do have a image.
4. Internet was useless, No.

1. Whatever file BD picked up perhaps ? Doesn't BD even tell you the filename? Of course it does! So......
2. Since it started with a FP, it's a logical starting point. No mention by OP of a boot issue.....
3. Good.
4. Not an answer and I made no claim as to the internet being useless. Was the full Diskpart procedure followed? Yes or no.

Why are you, MrPig, writing as though you're the OP ? ie "I do have an image" ?

Is there an "easy" to turn BD completely off? If so, it's not obvious within the interface...
You'll probably have to boot into to safe mode as the BD drivers will be locked otherwise.
Run Services.msc and set the startup type for anything BD related to manual. Reboot.
