bluetooth connect/disconnect sound just started

the optical cable for the soundbar (bestian s8520) I use with my win11 PC is going bad, so I unplugged it and am now connecting with bluetooth. Works fine this way, under bluetooth settings the soundbar is called S9920 with an icon of some headphones. Anytime I put my pc to sleep or wake it up, now there is a notification chime sound that plays. I have all windows sounds off btw. The same sound is played if I remove the S9920 bt device, or turn off bluetooth. I assume the sound is playing to indicate the sound bar bluetooth connection is starting or disconnecting. I cannot figure out how to disable this sound, hoping for any tips. thanks.

The only way to determine what sound it uses is to listen to each of the windows sounds until you hear the one you want to disable.
Open control panel. Select Sound>Sounds tab.
In the list, select a program event. Then select "test". Walk through each program event and click test until you hear the sound you want to disable, at the bottom of the window click the drop arrow and assign it (None). It's the first option in the list of available sounds.

thanks for your help. Its actually set for no sounds for all events already, yet it still makes the sound on connect/disconnect.

Have you scrolled all the way down, checking to see whether any category has a speaker icon (means there's a sound associated with that category)?

yes, no speaker icons anywhere as you scroll down

Since you have it set for No Sounds, I would assume you have no speakers connected , so you're hearing this from a case-internal speaker. Is that correct?

The sounds menu is set for no windows sounds but there is still audio for apps and files. Here are my audio devices. Regardless of which audio output active, the bluetooth disconnect chime happens anytime I do rightclick > disconnect to the headphones.

OK, another thought: open Device Manager > Bluetooth > double-click > Bluetooth Device > double-click > Driver tab > Update Driver > Search. See whether that gets anything done, or just reports that you have the best drivers.

It's really odd that you should have this noise problem just in association with Bluetooth.

it replies that I have the best driver. It does not make a sound when any other bluetooth device is connected/disconnected, its almost like there's an app running somewhere which is set to notify me when this particular bt connection changes status.

Well, I'm out of ideas. I've never had the problem and never encountered the problem before, so I'll have to hope someone else comes along who has an idea why you've got it.

update on this. Bestian said in reply to a question on amazon that this bluetooth chime is a permanent feature of the soundbar, a convenience for the user to make it easy to know when you device is connected, so I'm stuck with it.
