You do need a bit of graphics HP for the audio editing which can be quite screen intensive but it's certainly no video game.

Am I better of with an Intel Core i5 13600K 13th Generation 14 Core Processor or Intel Core i7 12700F 12th Gen Alder Lake 12 Core Processor?

The 13600k is supposed to outperform the 12700F. Intel Core i7 12700F vs i5 13600K: performance comparison

The Gen12 and Gen13 CPUs with an F suffix (like the I7 12700F) have no integrated GPUs. A discrete graphics card would be required.

Hi Chaps,
Things have been delayed with a house move and in the process of converting an outbuilding into a studio but almost ready for this build.
How are these components looking? Is there any advantage to using the Z690 chipset as opposed to the B760m?
Is that CPU the best for around that price point?

If it was my build, I'd prefer RAM from the QVL (qualified vendors list) for that motherboard. I don't find that exact MB at Kingston. The (similar?) Prime B760-M A doesn't list it, either.

The RAM in your link may work OK, though. Asus presumably doesn't test much of the available RAM.

If it's not much more expensive, maybe a lower latency RAM might be nice, too.

I don't know about the virtues of a Z690 board as compared to a B760. At least the B760 would presumably eliminate the possibility of getting a Z690 board with an old BIOS that doesn't support an I7-14700KF.

Getting two of them won't work. You need to either get only one kit that consists of two identical RAM sticks or get only one kit that consists of four identical RAM sticks. In addition, with DDR5 above 4800MHz the former choice very often runs more stable than the latter choice.

That RAM isn't on the QVL for 4 DIMMs, just 2. (That's not unusual).

If you want 32GB of RAM at a frequency greater than 4800MHz, 2X16 is likeliest to work.

DDR5-5600 seems to be more common know than 5200.

I don't know.

One potential concern with the Z690: it's possible that if the board was manufactured in the early days of that chipset, it'd need a BIOS update to use a Gen14 CPU. Some motherboards can perform a BIOS update with no CPU present, but I'm unsure how common that is.

(It's unlikely, I hope, but not impossible.)

Get a Z790, for no worries.

I used Scan for many components for my recent desktop build (see profile). They are competitive on UK prices and have good customer support. I had to return my fist choice Asus motherboard from them since my Noctua fan I wanted to reuse didn't clear the high VRM heatsinks. I had no problem with the return and refund. I also enquired about the i7-13700K CPU issues recently and warranty cover. They are aware and ready to help but my CPU is fine so far.

The I7-14700kf costs more, though.

While it is true that the i7-14700KF has gotten a 22% higher PC Mark rating from PassMark when compared to the i7-14700F, the former CPU has 125W Base Power and 253 Max Turbo Power so it is power hungry, and therefore difficult/costly to cool at least if we can assume that the noise of the cooling fans is going to be of major importance i.e. listening through studio monitors to get work done in a DAW. Whereas the latter CPU has 65W Base Power and 219 Max Turbo Power making it more energy efficient, less power hungry than the former by a considerable margin. In short, how fast a CPU needs to be depends on factors, but then, how quiet the fans need to be for them to not ruin the detailed sound that comes out of the studio monitors also depends on factors.

The clock speed differences are quite marked on those two, 14700f @2.1Ghz versus 14700 @3.4Ghz.
I'd imagine a fair performance difference?

Any major drawback to the B760 chipset? It's quite a bit cheaper.

Just re looking at that board, the blurb says for 12th and 13th generation processors. Is it compatible with a 14700 cpu?
