OKay, so with the update to Windows 11 Pro (24H2), they screwed up the networking on it. What ever happen to the old saying "If it works don't touch it"? Anyway, I'm trying to get my Raspberry Pi NAS to talk to my windows computer. But it seems like no one has an answer for me on this one. So "How can I revert my OS back to 23H2"? How do I talk to Windows people about this mistake that they made? And I've noticed (even tho it's checked), I'm not getting any email notifications? O and one last question, when I want to marry my two windows PC together, it's always asking for a username and password. Any clue what it is?

Does your NAS support SMB2 or higher? If not you'll need to add 'SMB 1.0/CIFS Client' in 'Turn Windows features on or off' (it's off by default).

Also, do you use a username with a password to connect to the NAS? If no password, then in 24H2 insecure guest access is now blocked by default. See:

If you connect from one PC to another, then initially your PC tries to connect using the name and password your signed in with. If this matches an account of the other PC you'll connect, if not then you'll be asked for the credentials (name and password) of an account that exists on that other PC. Tick the box for 'Remember my credentials' and your PC will use that name/password to connect from now on.

Yes it has SMB2 enable on it.

When I have to log into the GUI I have a username and password, but to use the NAS nope, don't have to put a username or password.

So your system fails and it's suddenly a Windows screw-up?

My 24H2 setup see's all my computers from each other plus they all see my NAS.

You can't expect MS to envisage issues with homebrew concoctions such as Raspberry Pi.

Big differences between your NAS and mine. Mine didn't cost as much as yours and I can do almost anything on it that you can do. So my system didn't fail.

According to your initial post it has failed in some manner? You can't access it.

I use several Pi's set up with SMB2 enabled on arrays of drives, and multiple windows 11 24H2 machines, works exactly as it should. Login with Account and save credentials.

Make sure the windows Local Network is private not public.

Maybe clear the windows credentials, and reset SMB User and password, just to be sure. Difficult to tell without logs of what its failing on. All I can say is it has not been broken and works as designed.

Nothing wrong with the NAS, most likely. Windows 11 use much more strict networking by default compared to 10 and older. Needs some work in order to work properly with some networked systems.

I can see my own Raspberry Pi on my network, but not my Windows 10 computer for some reason. It was working fine before 24H2, but now won't connect. I have no doubt that I will work through it. It's just a setup thing.

As for my NAS, I can see it as it is a mapped drive and that never changed with the upgrade. I can't remember if the initial setup needed a user name and password, though.

SMB 1.X is needed though for my Raspberry Pi. Make sure you have that turned on.

Okay dacrone - I did what you asked and it still didn't work. After reading the article it states that "if guest access is required by your third party, you may get this error": The error I get is The network path was not found. I started at #6 as #1-#5 I have no clue what they are talking here about. Is this on the OVM server? Remember I have a Raspberry Pi, not those other NAS. If you don't mind, could you look at Open Media Vault 7 and see what they say?

went back through this thread, but lets start with simple solutions first. when you have input your credentials (for the pi or the other win pc), in the username field, type:
COMPUTERNAME\USERNAME (the username used to log on the pc you are connecting to)

when you go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Computers and Devices
what shows up?

You'll find the Windows Credentials in Control Panel > Credential Manager.

The Raspberry Pi is a standard Linux computer, running a standard network stack. It doesn't matter if it is "home brew" or not. It should work without too much drama if the settings are right. Mine does.

This is about 24H2 breaking network connectivity. I am having a much worse time with my Win 10 installation than I did with my RPi. The RPi was easy peasy in comparison. I just logged in with my credentials after some fiddling on the Windows PC. I followed some guides and it worked.
