Can no longer create local account using fake email

Tried installing W11 pro 23H2. When I got to the spot about putting in fake email/fake password, I get the "Oops, something went wrong" screen.. "Someone has entered an incorrect password for this account too many times..."

When I click next, instead of being able to enter in just a name, it's keeps prompting me to enter a email address.

Did something recently change?

Did you try installing while not connected to the Internet and choosing the I don't have....... to create a Local Account?

The last time I installed Win11 I used a free E-Mail account from www.mail.com, chose what I wanted and it worked fine for the Microsoft Account.

I have installed on other computers and after they were running I created a New User with a slightly different name [by at least one character] with Administrative Rights, logged out then rebooted to enter the new User. Didn't assign a password to the Local account then I could delete the original user.

I tried also using the oobe\bypassno, but it didn't give me the "I don't have internet" prompt. I tried that along with another command (can't remember the exact one) that brought up network adapters so I could disable the current and that seemed to work.

I also tried creating a Rufus install USB and while it asked for Email/PW first, it went creating the local account right after.

I had something similar. But it still let me carry on. As Berton says, make sure you're not connected to the internet. If it says oops something went wrong just wait a bit. It should then take you to the page to set up a local account.

No internet connection while installing, absolutely. If Microsoft detects even the slightest whiff of a signal, it'll want your soul and first born before letting you get on with it.

And don't believe the scare tactics pop-up spiel about an incomplete installation .. it's only incomplete to the extent you don't automatically get all Windows bloatware on first install.

I think people are trying to be too clever about this.

I have installed Windows 11 Pro 23H2 several times and was always able to start with a local account. Note I used no special workarounds doing this. I even had the Internet connected for each one.

When the Windows 11 setup asked me to log into my Microsoft account I entered this:

Sign in: username
Enter password: password

Since this failed I got the expected message "Oops, something went wrong". After I clicked Next I was allowed to create a local account.

BTW, I just created a Windows 11 Pro VM using the Windows 11 23H2 ISO. My workaround worked the same as always.

Have you tried using fake@fake.com as the email address - that still works afaik.

At my work place, I just installed Windows 11 Pro on a new build and ran into the same issue. It looped through the login page three times, and still wouldn't bypass. We typically use admin / admin to bypass, but I may try with a different account (though I doubt it will make a difference). It appears that MS has changed their script, and now won't permit bypassing using an MS account through normal means. At least with this one, I was able to go back and use the Domain option to create a local account, but it's going to be a pain with Home edition computers.

Maybe you entered a valid domain? Just enter "a" for the account and "a" for the password.

That does not work anymore, I tried with 24H2 on June 4, 2024. 😂🤷‍♂️

oobe\bypassnro still worked, at least for now.
After it rebooted, instead of physically disconnecting the ethernet cable, I just issued "ipconfig /release" to get off the internet. 😎

Even when they also block oobe/bypassnro with disconnected network. Then you can always install windows server version as domain controller. And then join your own domain, instead of microsoft cloud. Then your still local.
