Hello everyone,

I recently took advantage of the Free Windows 11 upgrade (from Windows 10). However, whenever I start Windows 11 I get Xbox in my Start pinned area. I can uninstall it from there, but it always comes back when I restart my laptop (Lenovo P72, 20MBCTO1WW). Does anyone know of a way of removing Xbox from my system permanently? I have already tried to use the "Get" commands, but it doesn't show up in my list of provisioned apps/packages. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

tecknot

After you unpin something from the start menu, it should stay gone. You can try going to the microsoft store and updating all of your apps, see what happens. I would also try reinstalling the xbox app and dependencies, restarting, and then unpin from the start menu if still there:

Copy and paste the command below for the app you want to reinstall into Windows Terminal, and press Enter.
  • winget install 9MV0B5HZVK9Z
  • winget install 9NZKPSTSNW4P

If that all fails,

try this:

Just an FYI, if you like to play solitaire and save your games and scores don't disable the Xbox services.

I just went through uninstalling Xbox from Win 11 23H2, the proccess should be the same for you.

#1 You need to uninstall the components using powershell.

Code:
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Xbox.TCUI | Remove-AppxPackage
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGameOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxIdentityProvider | Remove-AppxPackage
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxSpeechToTextOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage

#2 Then you need to disable the game DVR components you just removed via the registry or you will get a popup nagging you to reinstall them when you start some games.

Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR Set "AppCaptureEnabled" to 0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore Set "GameDVR_Enabled" to 0
