I am on Windows 11 Pro Bios updated to 1.35.0. I'd like to have the system boot from an externally connected and powered Sabrent Dock HDD containing another Windows 11 with installed apps and data I need.
With the older computer it was very easy to change the boot order. Unfortunately the BIOS in the Dell PC is very difficult to navigate. Impossible to tell which drive is which, indeed I don't even know if the Sabrent dock HDD is listed. These are the Boot configuration entries. :

Windows Boot Mgr( the main onboard SSD boot, I suppose)
UEFI RST Micron_2450_MTFDKBA512TFK 232IA2C119
Onboard NIC ( iPV4), Possibly an external USB flash drive)
Onboard NIC(IPV6)
UEFI HTTP BOOT ( MAC: 2Co811085o9D9

Is the Sabrent DOCK SATA HDD there? I so, is it bootable? Which one is it in the listand . If it is not listed, how can I add It. There is a an ADD on option in the BIOS , but it leads nowhere.

How do I go about it?

THanks

Gundo

Have you tried hitting F12 on startup? This is “usually” Dells boot menu. Sometimes if you don’t know the drive you’re trying to boot from, from my experience, it’s a process of elimination.

Thanks
I was using F2. I tried F12. Basically it does the same, except that it opens with a different pre-boot page. lay out The devices listed are the same. as with F2. .From here, it leads to another page that is exactly the same as with F2, with exactly the same devices listed. There are two toggle switches to set Secure Boot and MS UEFI ON and OFF. They are bot ON. Other than this I am still at square 1.

Thanks for your help.'

If the drive in question isn't showing up in bios, then it's in a format unrecognizable for it to boot.

Yes, but this is exactly the point;. It could be listed, but there i no description allowing to identify it among the five items showing in the Boot configuration. . I think I can exclude the 1st one ( Windows Boot Manager) but could any of the remaining four be the one ?

Thanks again

do you have a live USB Linux distro to boot from.
if not, it maybe worth getting a live Linux distro and burn it to USB with Rufus.

this will not install anything on the computer but from the live session it will be able to give you the required details for the drives.
thats all the drives including any attached USB drives.

this should give you the required details and information on the drive you are trying to get working.

best of luck, Steve ..

You can also exclude these two as these are for booting from a network device.
Onboard NIC (iPV4)
Onboard NIC(IPV6)
This leaves only two to try out.
