An update, yesterday I put together another PC using 4gb ddr3 mem and an AMD cpu FX6300 which we had unused.
I simply used the built-in DVI mb video port to the monitor. And an EVO870 drive.
That is a different drive and I booted win11 and it works mostly.
But the most recent 2024 5 system update is failing to install, it installs, boots and has to roll it back, saying something went wrong and we don't know what it happened.
Why is that? Will not using a dedicated vid card do that?
MB is MS-7596
I copied over her user folder and added a new user (her), then had to copy it again as the user name is different.
Adding her, windows created a user folder trish.SCOTT-MS7596 folder name.
I diskparted the drive, wiped every partition off and I am running long smart test using Samsung Magician.
And immediately Magician puts a RED Failing LBA line in the upper right corner of that program.
So maybe the drive is going bad, it is less than 5 years old.
I had to hotplug the SATA cable after win11 was booted to read the drive files. If the busted 860 EVO was plugged in but not selected to boot, it prevented windows from booting, constant different weird error messages, blue screens within seconds of booting and those soon vanishing too, just like when it was in the busted DELL OptiPlex.
