Hello all,

I have recently had some frequent crashes with my computer when playing games. The screen will go black, the computer will shut down, and the fans will run like crazy. I wondered if it was a driver issue, and just updated my graphics driver, but still have the problem. Is it a power issue? I got this computer probably less than a year ago and it has worked very well until now. Any advice or guidance would be appreciated!

Edit: Just thought it may be helpful, but seems to be happening games with more graphics requirements. Happened when playing Nightengale in 4K and Into the Radius 2. Had no trouble when playing games like Rimworld and Corekeeper.

Thank you!

It may be that the CPU is overheating. There are a number of free (for personal use) tools for monitoring that. HWINFO is one.

You could stress the CPU with another free utility, like CPU-Z.

Typical causes for a CPU overheating (when it wasn't, previously) would be a failing CPU cooler, or failing CPU thermal compound.

I believe that an Intel Gen12 CPU (like your I7-12700KF) doesn't suffer from the same issues that have appeared for the Gen13 and Gen14 CPUs.

Best of luck.

Thank you for the quick reply! I will look into HWINFO and try CPU-Z to see what I can learn.

I appreciate the time and help!
