Computers Front Microphone/Headset Ports

So, I don't think my computers front microphone/headset ports work correctly, so i'm having to use the back. I was wondering if there was any workaround or device that would allow me to plug in my headset AND external speakers and I can switch them, OR be easily unplugging the headset without bringing out my computer, and breaking my back. . . lol

You can use something like this to convert your optical output to 3.5mm jack and RCA output.

In most motherboards you should connect the relevant audio cable from your tower front to the "audio" pins to pass the sound at the front. Remove the side of the tower and have a look at the bottom left of the motherboard for the "audio" pins. Then find the relevant cable on your tower front and plug it on the pins. If the cable has not a single large combined plug but are separated, consult your motherboard's User Guide of how to connect the individual cables at the appropriate pins. In very old motherboards you should also change some jumpers to pass the sound on the front while disabling the rear ports. Thankfully most not that old motherboards can play sound simultaneously from the rear and front outputs.

Oh it's already hooked up and was working fine the other day, but now when I use them, and talk, all the other person hears is "static" when I'm using the front audio.

Check your cables. A loosely connected cable produces electronic noise which is what others hear. If necessary replace the cables or your headset. In worst case you can buy a small USB sound dongle that bypasses the onboard sound card. Plug the USB dongle at your tower's front USB ports and connect your headset there. Alternatively you can buy USB headset instead of the analogue with 3.5mm jack.

Dude! You might be a life saver. I bought this several months ago, but didn't need it. Now I might. . lol

This may be a stupid question, but...

I see that the NZXT Phantom 630 has separate front microphone and headphone jacks.

Does your headset have a single 3.5mm plug? (Newer headsets do.)

Does the 630's headphone jack also give a mic connection? If not, there are splitters that would divide the connections between the two jacks.

My headset came with a splitter, yes.

It works too. . I'll test it out later tonight for the microphone when I call up my friend in Georgia.
