Apparently, the checkmark boxes take up a lot of resources. the original spreadsheet has more than 200 printable pages with data on it and is about 1.1 megs, the new one i just finished has 20 pages and is more than 2 megs. It takes a long time to load and if there is something else running, it stops and tells me not enough resources. So, this will not work. I guess i go back to post #2 for now.

That I would not have expected. I suppose it makes sense, though, as it probably tries to verify the state of each individual checkbox, similarly as how Excel also verifies functions and any imported data at startup.

Sorry, I didn't think to take this into account because I've only ever used a small number of them, ever.

So i removed all the boxes and then moved it to the desktop again and guess what, it now works. i pasted like 20 check marks and never got the popup or any other problem. What could have happened there? Not complaining, just thinking. let's hope it stays that way. Not holding my breath.

The accessibility was only on office 2021 not on 2019. It will be a while till i get to that computer again, so i will post back when i find out if it works in person.

If it happens to come back for whatever reason, maybe also look at other software running at the time (like in your system tray).

But here's to hoping it's a long gone issue!

People could never convince me that files created in an older version of an office product play well in a newer version. Or visa/versa
Maybe word… But Excel, always an issue for me.
And to flog a dead horse, accessibility function is just a reference and makes no physical changes to a file, has no bearing unless you’re taking its advice (that I have ever been aware of) As far as I am concerned; it’s just an annoyance, unless you want to utilise it’s Ai wizard of Oz knowledge. Let your mind rest with it.

Whenever you upgrade a software like office, they tell you it is backwards compatible, and i never had a problem with that. going the other way, you may run into problems because of new options that are not available in the old software. usually, you will get a popup telling you that certain things will not work because of this. The only difference i have discovered is the accessibility function. that does not make the spreadsheet unusable.
I sat down at the desktop today and opened both files and tried again if the copy-paste procedure. it works fine. i noticed that the original spreadsheet (with the 200 pages) responds slower than the one with the 20 pages. I guess that is to be expected because of the size of it.
Since both are working and the new one is faster, i will use the new one coming January 2024.

I'm glad the issue has disappeared for you Sven, though I do need to still figure out why it happens to me - and has been happening for so long.

I supposed I will take some time this weekend to write up a detailed bug report to submit. Maybe I can find an answer and be able to post it back here as a true fix.
